Martin Luther King Jr Day Analysis
It is interesting when we think about Martin Luther King Jr. Day. About the man behind the
holiday. He embodied values of service, courage, compassion, dignity, and humility during his
time as leader of the Civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. in his life and in his
depiction in the movie Selma shows a man that believed that implementation of public policy
should not be decided by those in power when they felt like administering it, but to force the
hand of policymakers who did not permit the rights of all Americans equally through a unified
voice of the people by the people. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very intellectual man who had a
beautiful mind and heart when it came to the knowledge of what he was doing and how he did it.
His leadership came from a fire that bred in him believing that what was going on was wrong. But
he also looked to his Christian faith to guide him in his decisions and actions. Just like how
Mahatma Gandhi had done years before through his Hindu faith to help India gain independence
from Great Britain. Martin Luther King had the intelligence also to see that non violent actions...

Brilliant Brain Surgeon
THINK BIG YOU VE GOT TO UNLEASH YOUR POTENTIAL
Coming from a broken home in Detroit, Michigan, Ben Carson developed a terrible hot temper
along with severe low self esteem at a very young age. He was just another kid trying to survive.
His possibility for a decent future didn t look good. The deck was definitely stacked against him.
Remember though, that in America, it doesn t matter what cards you are dealt, it only matters how
you play the hand, and the Carson family managed to play their hand quite well. Today, Dr.

Never again was he to be teased as the stupidest kid.
Hard and long hours of study awarded Carson a scholarship to Yale University. He continued his
studies at the University of Michigan Medical School where he studied neurosurgery. After
graduating, he moved on to Johns Hopkins University where he later worked his way up to Director
of Pediatric Surgery. At age 32, he became the youngest surgeon in the nation to hold that
distinguished title.
Dr. Carson s profession awards him the opportunity to work with the families of children who
have horrible brain tumors or other neurological conditions. He performs over 500 critical
operations on children in dire need each year, which is over triple the average neurosurgeon s
caseload.
It was in 1987 that Carson was thrust into the worldwide spotlight. After months of preparation, Dr.
Carson led his team in a grueling operation on the Binder Siamese twins who were both connected
at the back of the head. The operation was successful.
When asked how he stays focused? It s a matter of constantly being in the correct state of mind.
The first thing I do is pray. Then I read from the Bible, the book of Proverbs, which has an
enormous amount of wisdom. Just give me wisdom to know what to do and what not to do, states
our humble physician.

Dover Bitch Essay
When one reads the titles, it is pretty apparent that these two poems are related by some means.
Ironically, they were not written by the poet. Dover Beach is a slightly sappy poem written in a
depressing matter. A man pours out his heart and feelings to his companion on the beach. Sappy
and depressing do not seem to fit together very well, but that is the best terminology to describe
it. As for Dover Bitch , it is mocking the poem Dover Beach. In this poem, the writer is claiming
the female from Dover Beach would rather get physical that simply listen to her date ramble on.
While analyzing Dover Beach and Dover Bitch , it is evident the two writers have opposing views
on the outlook of life. In the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold, the... Show more content on

Dover Bitch was written by an apparently sarcastic, humorous man named Anthony Hecht. In
the beginning of this poem, he wants to make sure the reader knows exactly who is mocking by
calling Matthew Arnold by name. While Dover Beach was written with beautiful, meaningful
words Dover Bitch was written in a sort of conversational tone. He mocks how the speaker in
Arnold s poem rambles on and the girl has to listen to his garbage. He claims the girl was simply
thinking of the notion of what his whiskers would feel like/on the back of her neck (lines 10 11).
Hecht states that he had been intimate with this woman and it was simply just a once in a while
thing. Whenever he came to town, he would give her a present, sleep with her, and then move on
with his life. It could be a month or a year before this woman heard from him again. Sadly, the
woman went along with it. Whenever he called, she came running. His view on life is less
emotional than that of Matthew Arnold. Arnold feels as though looking as waves can bring on
emotions while Hecht can have relations with a woman and not feel a spark of

Theme Of The Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey Paw
The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence. First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut
off the head and the arms and the legs. The common theme of death is obvious in the stories, The
Tell Tale Heart, and The Monkeys Paw, but this explains just a bit of the stories. The people
involved are dealing with death for very different reasons, which capture the reader s attention. The
Tell Tale Heart and Monkey Paw stories build suspense for the audience because the stories are
based around murder and death, which the feelings of fear, reasoning, insanity, sadness, guilt and
coping are the effects.
A child s parents have made a dire mistake with wishes given to them that cause a tragedy and loss.
When two parents are given three wishes from a monkey paw, their first wish was to ask for money,
which they got what they wanted, but it cost them their only son. The mistake tore the mother
apart, So she wished her son back to life with a second wish, but when the son was at the front
door the father wished him to his grave. The death of the son is sad, but the truly suspenseful
part is when the son comes back to life with the horrific injuries all because of the wishes made
with the monkey paw. If he could only find it before the thing outside got in. A perfect fusillade
of knocks reverberated through the house, and he heard the scraping of a chair as his wife put it
down in the passage against the door. He heard the creaking of the bolt as it came slowly back,

Mattel Case Study
In 2004, Mattel Inc. first filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court claiming that its
former employee, Carter Bryant, violated copyright infringement and breach of contract. Mattel is
widely known for their popular Barbie dolls and MGA Entertainment have their Bratz dolls,
which were the popular modernized Barbie in the 2000 s. In 2008, a federal jury ruled in favor of
Mattelbecause they believed Mr. Bryant developed the concept of the Bratzdoll while working at
Mattel, then leaving and pitching his idea to MGA ( Barbie ). Mattel was awarded $100
million, however, the verdict was appealed resulting in a retrial. In 2010, MGA had counter
claimed arguing that Mattel misappropriated its trade secrets. A year later the court of appeals
awarded MGA $85 million in damages along with attorneys fees and costs, totaling $310 million.
Alex Kozinski, the Chief Judge in this case stated, The jury rejected Mattel s claim that MGA
infringed Mattel s copyrights by producing Bratz dolls. While Mattel doesn t challenge that
result...it does challenge the district court s award of attorneys fees and costs to MGA under the
Copyright Act. MGA argued that the copyright holder has a right to keep their ideas to themselves
without the employer s knowledge. In November 2014, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Amy D.
Hogue issued a written tentative ruling denying Mattel s demurrer to MGA s complaint, rejecting
Mattel s argument that MGA s current suit is barred by res judicata

Marine Corporal E.C. Nightingale was aboard the Arizona that fateful Sunday morning:
At approximately eight o clock on the morning of December 7, 1941, I was leaving the breakfast
table when the ship s siren for air defense sounded. Having no anti aircraft battle station, I paid
little attention to it. Suddenly I heard an explosion. I ran to the port door leading to the
quarterdeck and saw a bomb strike a barge of some sort alongside the NEVADA, or in that
vicinity. The marine color guard came in at this point saying we were being attacked. I could
distinctly hear machine gun fire. I believe at this point our anti aircraft battery opened up.
We stood around awaiting orders of some kind. General Quarters sounded and I started for my
battle station in secondary aft. As I passed through casement nine I noted the gun was manned
and being trained out. The men seemed extremely calm and collected. I reached the boat deck
and our anti aircraft guns were in full action, firing very rapidly. I was about three quarters of the
way to the first platform on the mast when it seemed as though a bomb struck our quarterdeck. I
could hear shrapnel or fragments whistling past me. As soon as I reached the first platform, I saw
Second Lieutenant Simonson lying on his back with blood on his shirt front. I bent over him and

Compare And Contrast The Kings Speech And The King s Speech
Good afternoon class,
While watching the films, The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind, a quote rang very true to
me. One word frees us all the weight and pain of life. That word is love. This was quoted from a
Greek Playwright called Sophocles. In The King s Speech, Elizabeth fulfilled the role of being a
supportive partner to Bertie with ease, whereas in A Beautiful Mind, Alicia portrayed a realistic
idea of the trauma experienced when a loved one is suffering from a mental illness. By comparing
the two characters and referring to filmic techniques we will be able to see the factors that affected
each women s life and the way they handled and overcame the circumstances that they and their
families experienced.
Both Elizabeth and Alicia showed unconditional love and support for their husbands. However,
their body language, expressions and interactions with each man were different from one another. In
the image below, Elizabeth maintained physical contact with Bertie and was shot in the same frame
after he stuttered during his Speech. This displayed Elizabeth s character as being the strong
foundation in the relationship. From scene one, she showed her protective side by ... Show more

If their husbands didn t achieve what they did with their help, the consequences would have
been a lot worse for Alicia than Elizabeth. As you can see in the image, Alicia s marriage, family
and wellbeing would have been ruined because she would have lost Nash to his illness, raise her
son as a single mother and not live a happy and fulfilling life. On the other hand, if Bertie had not
been able to complete his responsibilities and allowed the microphone that he had to speak in be a
barrier, they would have still been the royal family. Elizabeth s marriage to Bertie was not under
pressure and they were not in a position of becoming poor if he had to abdicate as King. The only
people that would have suffered was the people of the United

The Threat Of The Terror Group Isis
In December of 2011, the United States withdrew all remaining combat troops from Iraq. After
eight years of war, the United States turned the responsibility for the defense of Iraq over to the
Iraqi security forces. Iraq immediately saw the rise of sectarian violence among Sunnis and Shia.
This nation also saw the reemergence of the insurgency known as Al Qaeda in Iraqin the northwest
portion of the country. The problems in Iraq grew with the igniting of a civil war in the
neighboring nation of Syria. This civil war allowed for members of Al Qaeda in Iraq to spread to
and develop in an unstable area and emerging as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, ISIS. Within
twelve months, ISIS grew by creating of an organizational structure, engaging in violent military
campaigns, developing an economy and establishing successful recruitment techniques. ISIS now
controls large swaths of territory in both northwest Iraq and Eastern Syria. Political leadership in
the United Statesis now debating what action should be taken to combat the terror group ISIS. To
prevent ISIS from harming our national security, to stop the threat of international terrorism and to
stop the destruction of Iraq and its people The United States should send ground troops to Iraq to
combat ISIS.
Many people do not think the government should send troops to Iraq to stop the threat of ISIS
becoming a national threat to the United States. The Obama administration has focused on

Leadership And Culture Of The Field Of Organizational...
Leadership and Culture
Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership,
powerful leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an
organization (Yukl, 2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically
neutral ground for theories of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit
assumptions about proper forms of influence.
The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining
by the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is
behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership,
and (3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership
Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges
(2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus
on serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective
leadership with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first
developing a character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. As
stated by Yukl (2006, p.357), servant leadership theory explains why the primary concern of
leaders should be to nurture, develop, and protect followers. The direct link to servant leadership
lies within the biblical

Celia, a Slave Essay
Celia, a Slave is the epitome of the relationship between slaves and their owners and also the
slaves and other whites in the 1850 s. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert
Newsom and her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These
relationships affected more so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their
weaker nature as perceived by the sexual differences of the time period between men and women in
general. Slaveryis questioned by the morals of the Northerners and some Southerners though it is
common in the South so most Southerners reinforce the ideas of slavery with their own morals,
believing slaves as meaningless because of their difference. Celia was bought by Robert... Show

Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to
stop his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system
was unable to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change
their beliefs about slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved
previously in the case Dred Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the
Southerners; however a man named John Jameson took her side and defended her and her
actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of defense against his advances, and claimed she had the
right, by law, to use deadly force to protect herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual
relations with him. Though, because of the southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat
them as inferiors, they did not deliver the evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having
lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge
Hall denied the motion on October 13th and Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th.
She was given this time before being executed to birth her child, as law stated that pregnant women
could not be executed. This shows that there is a bit of equality between women when dealing with
court systems at this time,

memoir I Love Yous Are For White People which is about when he and his family immigrated to
the United Statesduring the aftermath of the Vietnam War and their new life in LA county. His
journey is not a unique one as many refugees and immigrants experienced what he and his family
experienced in their new lives. In their new lives, many different events occurred that tells the
problem all immigrants encounter when adjusting to life in America. Using Lac... Show more

Professor Vo mentioned the idea that many immigrant families whose descendants grow up in
the United States as opposed to their home country tend to grow up differently. An example is
the multigenerational Japanese families living in the United States as growing up the first
generation made their entire families and future generations act very Americanized to assimilate
into the community. This idea is not forgotten in Su s memoir when he talks about wearing a
suit at Bob Big Boy s, I don t want to wear my suit. ... We are going to be eating with white
people. If you don t look nice they will look down upon you (Su 57). Here Su mentions about
how he does not want to wear his suit for something that seemed so trivial while his father insists
he does so that they impress the white people that they can act and look like them. It can then be
assumed that early on in his childhood, his family wanted to be like the white community so that
they could better fit in when living in America. However, this proves to become contradictory
later in the memoir when Su tells his father that he loves him. His father s response, Are you
trying to imitate those white people by telling me those fucking words? (Su 150). This proves to
become quite a contradictory response to what he previously told his son before of not being
looked down by the white people, yet his very actions here is one that is

The Blackfoot Nation Essay
Across Canada and the United States there are many First Nations languages which are a part of the
Algonquian language family, all of which with varying states of health. Although these languages
share many characteristics of the Algonquian language family, the cultures, systems of beliefs, and
geographic location of their respective Nations differentiate them. In being shaped by the landscape,
cultures, and spirituality of the First Nations, the language brings the speakers closer to their land

For example the Kainai, which means many leaders , did not choose to be referred to as the
Blood Nation (Bastien 2004, 10). There are many explanations as to how the Kanai became
widely referred to as the Blood Peoples. One explanation is that it comes from a Cree term used
to describe the Kanai by the red paint, which looks like blood, that is used in ceremony to paint
their face and hands red. A second explanation is there was a mistranslation of a term used to
describe the Kanai as wearers of white weasel pelts, to wearers of blood (Bastien 2004, 10). This
mistranslation comes from the similarities of the words for blood and the term used to describe
the changing of the white weasel pelts to white with the seasons (Bastien 2004, 10). In this case,
the Kanai, through the use of their language are asserting their preference to be known as the
many chiefs, over the Blood Peoples or the wearers of blood. Though today, the Blackfoot territory
is defined by reserve/reservation boundaries and divided by the United States Canadian border, their
homeland, Nitawahsinnanni ( our land ), continues to be defined by topographical features using
their language (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2013, 12). This traditional homeland spans from

The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism is a forum for author David Harvey to voice his
concerns on the contemporary global capitalist model. As a Marxist geographer and
anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism through a lens of skepticism that results in
a scathing renunciation of the capitalist goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction.
Harvey argues that in a world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the
capitalist process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and boom
(40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the vast majority of the
population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the power of capital and unable to pull
themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the extent of the problem we face in the wake of the
Great Recession. The economy continues to grow modestly, while median household income
shrinks (Noss 2). The capitalists are reloading once again at the expense of Main Street. As
Harvey points out, there is a great need to reevaluate of our views of modern capitalism. The
Enigma of Capital is just a starting point.
Harvey begins his analysis of capitalism with a

My Spiritual Journey
Personal Spiritual Journey
My Spiritual Journey is my walk with God and Jesus Christ, from whom l seek solace and
guidance every second, minute and hour of my day. Decisions that l make daily be it personal,
educational and spiritual are based on what l feel is the Godly and ethical way. At a very young
age, l was introduced to God and this when my walk with God began. Being raised in a Christian
household l was taught about the importance of God and how he supplied all our needs.
I am connected to God every day who is a superior power. I live an ethical and morally driven life
as to what God will approve. I find that when l think about who God, l feel a sense of love, joy,
excitement and peace because l know that he is watching over me and for my best interest. God
is a feeling to me, not a physical person; a higher power l seek in times of trouble and joy. I also
praise him for the blessings bestowed upon me and for my future benefits that will be granted to
me when he deems it appropriate. I equate God with the power that is above everything including
Jesus.
When l was first taught about God, a lot of fear was instilled in me. I was told that he was the
Supreme and sacred being with the ultimate power to end my life if l offended him. l worshiped
God out of fear and not love because the Church l attended portrayed God as the one that gives life

Tokugawa Shogunate Research Paper
Hello everyone, I am Monique Murphy, and I am your tour guide for the latest Cultures of the
Medieval World. Today we will be touring the Tokugawa Shogunate, which lasted for over 250
years bringing the first peaceful era to Japan.
13 Tokugawa shoguns ruled in succession from 1603 1868, with each successive head assuming the
rank of Shogun. This was bestowed by the Emperor who was merely a figurehead and exercised no
political authority.

At this time the shogunate experienced civil unrests and a growing opposition. Samurai and

Charles Seller s Response To The Market Revolution
Similar to the Industrial Revolution the phrase market revolution is explained in Charles Sellers s
The Market Revolution: Jacksonian America, 1815 1846, which offers a look at the antebellum
period through the rapidly changing market through cultural, social, and economic perspectives.
Sellers describes America s massively growing capitalist market was history s most revolutionary
force, and that this new push of capitalismwas wresting the American future from history s most
conservative force, the land (Sellers, 4). This change in American culture turned a craft economy to
a more laissez faire market of capitalism. The majority of Americans moved from self employment
and bartering to industrial and factory style work, changing the system from bartering and trade to
an hour and wage system that supported the growing consumer market. The past handmade items
that were low in variety and unique then turned into items that could be made in a very large and
identical capacity for profit. Further, this market revolution stressed Americans into unparalleled
mobilization that now dictated the lives of everyone swept up in it (Sellers, 4). Sellers explains that
the market promoted a competitive pursuit of wealth by open ended production of commodity
which lured the American people into a false sense of individualism with each product they
amassed (Sellers, 5). This created a new way to project the American image through the things that
were owned. Bushman illustrates

Ascetic Hermits
Every single person in the world, regardless of their race, religion or gender, is different. Therefore,
there is more than one way to reach God, enlightenment, or whatever each respected person chooses
to believe in. In Christianity, there are two main paths taken to reach the divine; the communal path
embracing obedience and the individual route which focuses on asceticism. The Sayings of the
Desert Fathers and The Rule of St. Benedict in English reveal what each road to the divine entails
while explaining how the ascetic hermits and monks live for the mutual goal of reaching unity with
God. When taking the communal path to reach salvation, some people decide to become obedient
monks and live in monasteries. Once in a monastery, monks are... Show more content on

These followers can be referred to as ascetic hermits since they heavily rely on self discipline
rather than obedience. Hermits are constantly in journey, they don t have a permanent residency
since they withdraw themselves from society and all other formal ways of living. In order to be an
ascetic hermit, one must live off the food of the land, since they are living in complete isolation
other than when they pass by monasteries and stay for a few days. Therefore, hermits must have
discernment and be able to discipline themselves to stay on course with what God s scriptures
tell them to do. If they fall off course, they pray and confess their sins to God. Abba Anthony in
The Sayings of the Desert Fathers said that the great work of hermits was to always take the
blame for his own sins before God and to expect temptation to his last breath (Ward 2). Everyone
will always have temptations, it s what makes them human. However, it is one s own choice in
whether to act on them or not. Ascetic hermits on the individual path to the divine also practice
hesychasm, which is constant prayer and silence. Bessarion, a Desert Father, told a story when
[he] came to [a prisoner s] cell [he] found [the prisoner] standing at prayer with his hands raised
towards heaven. For fourteen days he remained thus (Ward 41). This is merely one of many stories
of hesychasm in The Desert Fathers. Furthermore, the number

Essay about Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall
Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall
Evelyn Waugh was born in 1903. He is not considered to be a distinguished novelist but his
writing is notable because they satirise much that was bizarre in English society. His father was a
publisher and his first novel, Decline and fall, was published in 1928. It is a satire on the preparatory
school industry. It is in the style and humour of Charles Dickens. Evelyn Waugh achieves his
purpose through exaggeration. He paints characters that are larger than life, just like Dickens. We
also see this method used in today s television in programmes like Spitting Image where gargoyle
like images of prominent personalities behave in an outrageous way. The descriptions... Show more

Evelyn Waugh satirises the way that the school employs teachers. They don t care about
qualifications needed to be a teacher; they just employ and rip you off. For example Paul
Pennyfeather does not teach music but he has to. Paul later ends up as a schoolmaster because he
gets expelled from the school for indecent behaviour. This school is nowhere near what any reader
would expect it to be. It s absolutely a joke.
Waugh continues this narrative conversational tone to continue PennyfeatherВґs story. He makes it
seem normal that Church and Gargoyle, again a name Dickens might have chosen to represent the
contrast between the good church and the evil looking gargoyles, can get him a job without the
necessary qualifications, even though testimonials are requested. They decide he is fit for the post
even though he does not know German. Similarly, he is told to give organ lessons to Beste
Chetwynde. Not one of the characters at Llanabba Castle, including the lead Augustus Fagan
Esquire, as he likes too be addressed, seems at all concerned with education, or qualified to
educate. Church and Gargoyle have it in the forth category, that of bad schools. Dr. Fagan

Essay Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium
Plato s metaphor of the divided line is essentially two worlds; the world of opinion (the physical
world or the world of becoming/existence) and the world of knowledge (the world of knowledge
or the world of being/essence). This concept is key to the context of The Symposium:
Love. It is important to note that as the speeches evolve throughout this particular work they
parallel this concept. Plato has, in this writer s opinion, reinforced his theory through the speaker s
by outlining the journey from the world of becoming (Phaedrus speech) to the world of being
(Diotima s speech). This being so, Diotima and Socrates (the forms) will be the key focus for which
all previous speakers will ascend each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He introduces Heavenly Aphrodite (heavenly love), which this writer believes equates with
homosexual love, and Common Aphrodite (common love), which would be equivalent to
heterosexual love. Common love according to his view is one that is based on sensuality and
produces children. Heavenly love is based on companionship and involves mental and soul
oriented pursuits. He places a great deal of emphasis on virtue. He goes on to say that heavenly
love is good and only becomes ugly if a lover s motive is exploitation. Pausanias has brought out
one of Diotima s major points, the idea of duality in love, although he is not as thorough. His
overall outlook seems to be mainly homosexual, yet recognizes heterosexual love. Next,
Eryximachus speaks. He compliments Pausanias on his explanation of the dual nature of love and
argues that there should be a balance between the two. He elaborates on that by saying both types
are required for a peaceful existence; one can not exist with out the other.
He uses an analogy that equates love with an ailment. It can be removed or implanted. Basically
he alludes to a bond or bridge between the two types of love which Diotima expands on.
Aristophanes finally gets rid of his hiccups. He attempts to explain love by introducing a myth in
which Zeus splits three types

Duality In Plato s The Republic
In Plato s The Republic, Socrates reasons that poets are detrimental to society because they
portray false and abstract images that feed the bad and impious parts of the human soul,
corrupting people by allowing them to indulge in inappropriate and cowardly behavior. However,
Socrates s views seem to be based solely around reason and an objective, quantifiable truth. He
wants people to be so pious and under control that they do not even experience impulses towards
impiety, however the elimination of the choice between right and wrong also eliminates any value
in the choosing right. Duality is an integral part of human experience and it can perhaps teach us
more than a simple existence of piety.
Socrates postulates that poetry and other imitative

Imagine yourself rich and famous, living the modern American Dream. Now, imagine constantly

conduct that is legitimate news gathering, Assemblyman Donald Wagner opposes against the
legislation. Viewing the bills as a threat to the First Amendment, Wagner and other Republican
lawmakers voted against them (Pedroncelli, n.p.). Many people do outrageous things to
successfully get a job accomplished, but majority of the paparazzi use unethical tactics. To get a
valuable picture of a celebrity, paparazzi often create unnecessary chaos. For instance, a paparazzo
purposely put himself in front of Lindsay Lohan s moving vehicle in order to get a dramatic story
from it. Needless to say, about 41% of the paparazzi make up a story to go along with the photo.
During desperate measures, another paparazzo has set off the fire alarm to get their target to exit

profitable picture is captured, paparazzi care less about who gets hurt in the process, whether it is
a pedestrian and/or the celebrities themselves. Risking their own safety, paparazzi will even climb
buildings or stow away in trees. The most popular incident in this case was Jennifer Aniston s

Analysis Of Rene Descartes s The Descartes
Rene Descartes was a French mathematician who concurred with Plato and the early scholars about
the significance of reason. Nonetheless, he found that his antecedents regularly settled their
thoughts upon what he took to be a to some degree temperamental and dubious establishment. In
this way, he starts his own venture by perceiving that all that he supposes he knows could be the
consequence of sense involvement, which can mislead us, as when we think the street is wet when
it is just a trap of light or acquired thoughts, which might be valid but additionally have not been
confirmed. As such, Descartes starts his venture with the progressive thoughtthat we may not know
anything by any stretch of the imagination with any sureness. Along these lines, Descartes chooses
to strip away the greater part of his convictions until the main ones that remain are the ones that
totally can t be questioned. Once these center convictions are set up, he reasons that he can
manufacture every single future conviction upon these bedrock bits of learning. To do this stripping
endlessly, he utilizes a progression of progressively solid otherworldly questions. We ll talk about
what happens to his quest for information in no time, yet for the time being, we should investigate

Characteristics such as these mentioned can be seen in toys determining so much about a toys

The Sacrificial System in the Hebrew Scriptures
Korban Chova: Obligatory Sacrifices
Korban Khatat Sin Offerings (Literally sacrifices due to sin )
Introduced in Leviticus 6:24 30, this was a mandatory sacrifice due to sin as defined in the Torah.
This was most commonly based on negligence of the commandment broken and was offered on
the northern side of the altar (which was out of view of the people) so as not to publicly humiliate
the sinner (the Olah was conducted in the same manner). Based on social standing it would consist
of the following:

would lean over the animal, place his hands on the animal s head (s mikhah yedayim), and confess

collected the blood from when the offerer cut the throat of the animal and then would sprinkle it on
the four corners of the altar. The organs were removed, cleaned and then burnt on the altar with the
rest of the animal.
Introduced in Leviticus 6:8 13, this was a free will sacrifice. Based on wealth it could consist of the

Middle Class: Male Sheep or goat without blemish
Lower Class: Turtledoves or young pigeon

While moving west northwest and northward along the western periphery of the ridge, the cyclone
weakened to a tropical storm on October 27. Later that day, Rina curved northward. Around 02:00
UTC on October 28, Rina struck Quintana Roo about 12 mi (19 km) southwest of Playa del
Carmen with winds of 60 mph (95 km/h). The storm left little impact in the YucatГЎn Peninsula
due to its weakened state. Rina degenerated into a remnant low late on October 28, upon emerging
into the YucatГЎn Channel. The remnant low dissipated near the western tip of Cuba on October
29.[96] A cold front, combined with moisture from Rina, resulted in 5 7 in (130 180 mm) of
rainfall across parts of South Florida in less than six hours, causing street flooding and leaving
water damage in at least 160 homes and buildings in Broward County alone.[97] Farther north, two
tornadoes touched down in the vicinity of Hobe Sound, one of which damaged 42 mobile homes, 2

Effects Of Migration In Mexico
Introduction
Migration is one of the biggest and most known examples of living. People migrate all the time,
whether it is immigration into a country or emigrating out of a country. Migration happens very
often, especially in our modern world; needless to say, it is something that people use as privilege
in order to sustain and make their lives better. People migrate for numerous reasons, and those
reasons depend on how their lives will be formed later on in time. On this subject, a specific
example of migration can be seen in the illegal immigration from Mexico to USA. Many people in
Mexico are not pleased with their lives, therefore they use illegal immigration in order to enhance
it. Currently, in the modern world, America has been the solution to many individuals living
problems in LEDC s as well as in Mexico. It has the ability to provide people with the factors that
they are lacking or have too much of. As of now, Mexico has the largest number of immigrants
entering America and it is still increasing, however illegally. Illegal... Show more content on

With a lot of working aged people emigration from Mexico, in order to find better pay jobs, there
are many elders left. Which means that the dependency ratio will increase due to lack of the
working aged people which are emigrating Mexico. That might later consequence in the
decrease of young fertile couples providing the reduction in birth rates. Eventually, once again, it
will cause increasing the dependent ratio having no one to work in order to pay taxes for
sustaining the elders. This is a social factor, however it also affects the economical factors. An
economical factor, is that since people are leaving Mexico more, the tension of land, medical
services, and jobs are no longer in overcapacity. People will have more jobs available as well as
better medical services given to them and more opportunities to choose

How Did Thomas Edison Contribute To Government
Thomas Alva Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, February 11, 1847. The Edisons came from
Holland in 1730 first settling in Elizabethport, New Jersey. The Edisons had a long proclaimed
history of long lived males, with his great grandfather living until 104 and his grandfather until the
matured age of 102. Back in the early 1800s, the Edison family fled to Canada among many others
interested in the loyalist movement that offered a 600 acre grant to those who moved to the
province of Nova Scotia. Thomas Edisons grandfather was born on Canadian soil, thus hindering
the detailed reports of Edison family. Many years later, Samuel Edison was born and without much
money in the family. Not much is known about Samuel s life besides wedding Miss Nancy... Show

With a head too big for his body and a weak small body, Edison s doctors were worried he had
brain damage. Though Edison was horrid at school, he was an zealous reader and always had
his nose in a book. Edison also had a superb memory being able to clearly remember all the way
back to his toddler years. Edison was so lacking in what was needed of a student of his age that
he was not allowed to go to school for some time. Luckily his mother had the training and was
able to give him a much higher education than the public schools could provide at any given
time. Though Edison loved to read, he was aslo always interested in how things worked. Either
the bridge or the train, Edison loved to watch the world around him come together. As Edison
grew into a man, the family moved from Milan, Ohio to Port Huron, Michigan. While in
Michigan, Edison s mother began to grow old and sick. Edison s father began new work in the
grain and feed distribution business. As he grew older, his father paid him for each factual book
he read and soon after Edison began his own laboratory of sorts. Edison had a love for chemistry
and once he had his hands on a book of chemistry experiments he completed every experiment
there was and labeled all his bottles of chemicals from the drugstore as poison so no one would
lay a hand on them. Realizing he had meager cash to spend on his experiments, he went to find a
way of earning easy money and

Factors for Academic Success
What is academic success dependent on? This has been the question for many psychological
studies. To answer this question qualitative research needs to be done to investigate what
hinders or promotes academic success. This essay will investigate these factors by way of
interviews, while framing them in the context of current research. It will then be demonstrated
how the Job Demands Resource model can be used to inform such a study. First though it will be
shown why it is of the utmost importance to identify and understand these factors, in essence
why such research should be conducted. I Reasons for the research Education is the forefront to
any countries economic standing and through education there is a ripple effect that moves
through the economy and society. It was found that in a developing country an increase of 1% in
enrolment lead to a 0.1% increase in per capita GDP (Ogunade, 2011). Therefore understanding
what hinders and aids students in their studies could potentially lead to a better economic status
(Ogunade, 2011). There are 23 public universities in South Africa and the major problem facing
them is high drop out rates and low retention (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). It has
been observed that in 2007 20% of students dropped out after the first year of studies and an
additional 30% after the second year, which indicates only 50% of students finished there degree
and only 15% on the allotted time (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014).

Recollection Of Meno, Anytus And The Slave Boy
Meno:
My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates demonstration of recollection
with the slave boy and the contrast between Meno, Anytus and the Slave boy. Socrates
demonstrates what he refers to as recollection by asking Meno s slave leading questions until he
is able to demonstrate to the boy that the length of the side of a square whose area has been
doubled in size is not double of the previous length as the boy previously thought. This method,
called the Socratic method, has been employed by different teachers of mine in the past while
instructing me. It was interesting for me to find out about its origin. While reading the dialogue, it
became clear that Meno did not have a teachable spirit (or he was unwilling to learn). The contrast
if his, Anytus and the slave boy s attitudes showed a clear difference between someone who is
willing to be instructed and someone who is not. Anytus seemed to be the most unwilling of the
two because he refused to investigate before jumping to conclusions (as he did during the
discussion about the Sophists).
Phaedrus:
My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates idea of the soul and his story of
Theuth and Thamus. Socrates described the soul as the innate power of a winged team of horses
and a charioteer . In a man s soul, one of the horses is of good stock and the other is not. The
better the stock of the man s horses, the higher his soul can fly, and the better his vision of things as
they really

Implementation Of A Negotiation Is A Communication Method
Negotiation Style A negotiation is a communication method in which several parties talk over
problems and endeavor to solve them via discussion in order to reach a resolution (Lewicki,
Barry, Saunders, 2011). Negotiations occur regularly on micro and macro scales, both in the
professional or personal which could be at the office and or in everyday life. Your approach and
style can make the different between a make or break deal. If attaining an agreement in a
negotiation is based on collaboration and collaboration is based on trust, then to be an effective
negotiator you need to spawn trust between yourself and the other party. Trust comes from being
natural and being yourself, not from trying to be something you re not, a fake. Once you re aware
of your negotiation style you know what can realistically be improved and what can t. The purpose
of this paper is to outline my findings from reflective questionnaires and to compile a plan to
improve on my negotiation skills. Summary of Findings We as individuals are all tested during
various circumstances and given lots of occasions to test the validity of these individual
characterizations, and to determine the positive and negative elements of any style that we identify.
Some of the characterizations may come as second nature, while others may be uncomfortable and
less desirable for an individual. With completing the two questionnaires the Personal Bargaining
Inventory and the Communication Competence Scale questionnaires

Themes Of The Princess Bride And Diablo 3 And Billy Budd
In literature, there are many written works which have themes that intermix with one another.
While literature contains many themes, this does not mean that other works do not contain the
same ideas as presented in written works. In the three stories of The Princess Bride , Diablo 3
and Billy Budd Violence and Quests can be seen largely throughout each tale. Violence, while still
having the tradition sense of the word, does not always mean fighting someone or physical attacks.
Violence thematically is the display of aggressive actions verbally, physically, or even aggression
leading to a goal. The other overarching theme in these stories is that of a Quest. Any self realizing
adventure where the protagonist realizes is considered a quest thematically as well as a large set
goal for as seen within the story. The main themes of The Princess Bride, Diablo 3 and Billy Budd
are Quests as well as Violence which show a deep connection on a thematic level.
In The Princess Bride by William Goldman the story starts both as an explanation of the story s
origin as well as where the story should go. Even in this prolog to the story a quest is outlined.
And I realized that I had let control of it go. . . They could change anything they wanted. So I did
something of which I am genuinely proud. I bought the book back from the studio, with my own
money (Goldman xxxv). Even before the story begins a quest was set before the reader. The quest
of a man to have the book he loved

However, some people oppose the policy citing that it is the right of the citizens to ensure
adequate protection. They hold that the policy should not apply as it is bound to infringe of the
citizens basic rights (Totten Pedersen, 2012, p. 468). In my perspective and attitude, I think the
introduction of gun control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it
will facilitate the prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals.
Gun control should be encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity.
The existing similarities with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who
believe in respect to humanity, life, and rights, however, we differ on the moral aspect and the
extent to which the use of guns should be allowed. I do not support the imposition of strict gun
control policy although the group thinks that the policy should not be applied. I am not a native
anthropologist, however, I like interacting with people of diverse background to understand the
major issues that affects them including social matters. My aim of understanding the underlying
issues is to contribute by influencing individuals viewpoints especially on issues that require critical
thinking (Kuper, 2006, p. 1). For instance, I would use the information and knowledge gun control
matters I have in offering credible insights to the critics of

  • 6. Martin Luther King Jr Day Analysis It is interesting when we think about Martin Luther King Jr. Day. About the man behind the holiday. He embodied values of service, courage, compassion, dignity, and humility during his time as leader of the Civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. in his life and in his depiction in the movie Selma shows a man that believed that implementation of public policy should not be decided by those in power when they felt like administering it, but to force the hand of policymakers who did not permit the rights of all Americans equally through a unified voice of the people by the people. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very intellectual man who had a beautiful mind and heart when it came to the knowledge of what he was doing and how he did it. His leadership came from a fire that bred in him believing that what was going on was wrong. But he also looked to his Christian faith to guide him in his decisions and actions. Just like how Mahatma Gandhi had done years before through his Hindu faith to help India gain independence from Great Britain. Martin Luther King had the intelligence also to see that non violent actions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Dover Bitch Essay When one reads the titles, it is pretty apparent that these two poems are related by some means. Ironically, they were not written by the poet. Dover Beach is a slightly sappy poem written in a depressing matter. A man pours out his heart and feelings to his companion on the beach. Sappy and depressing do not seem to fit together very well, but that is the best terminology to describe it. As for Dover Bitch , it is mocking the poem Dover Beach. In this poem, the writer is claiming the female from Dover Beach would rather get physical that simply listen to her date ramble on. While analyzing Dover Beach and Dover Bitch , it is evident the two writers have opposing views on the outlook of life. In the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dover Bitch was written by an apparently sarcastic, humorous man named Anthony Hecht. In the beginning of this poem, he wants to make sure the reader knows exactly who is mocking by calling Matthew Arnold by name. While Dover Beach was written with beautiful, meaningful words Dover Bitch was written in a sort of conversational tone. He mocks how the speaker in Arnold s poem rambles on and the girl has to listen to his garbage. He claims the girl was simply thinking of the notion of what his whiskers would feel like/on the back of her neck (lines 10 11). Hecht states that he had been intimate with this woman and it was simply just a once in a while thing. Whenever he came to town, he would give her a present, sleep with her, and then move on with his life. It could be a month or a year before this woman heard from him again. Sadly, the woman went along with it. Whenever he called, she came running. His view on life is less emotional than that of Matthew Arnold. The common theme of death is obvious in the stories, The Tell Tale Heart, and The Monkeys Paw, but this explains just a bit of the stories. The people involved are dealing with death for very different reasons, which capture the reader s attention. The Tell Tale Heart and Monkey Paw stories build suspense for the audience because the stories are based around murder and death, which the feelings of fear, reasoning, insanity, sadness, guilt and coping are the effects. A child s parents have made a dire mistake with wishes given to them that cause a tragedy and loss. When two parents are given three wishes from a monkey paw, their first wish was to ask for money, which they got what they wanted, but it cost them their only son. The mistake tore the mother apart, So she wished her son back to life with a second wish, but when the son was at the front door the father wished him to his grave. The death of the son is sad, but the truly suspenseful part is when the son comes back to life with the horrific injuries all because of the wishes made with the monkey paw. If he could only find it before the thing outside got in. • 16. Compare And Contrast The Kings Speech And The King s Speech Good afternoon class, While watching the films, The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind, a quote rang very true to me. One word frees us all the weight and pain of life. That word is love. This was quoted from a Greek Playwright called Sophocles. In The King s Speech, Elizabeth fulfilled the role of being a supportive partner to Bertie with ease, whereas in A Beautiful Mind, Alicia portrayed a realistic idea of the trauma experienced when a loved one is suffering from a mental illness. By comparing the two characters and referring to filmic techniques we will be able to see the factors that affected each women s life and the way they handled and overcame the circumstances that they and their families experienced. Both Elizabeth and Alicia showed unconditional love and support for their husbands. However, their body language, expressions and interactions with each man were different from one another. In the image below, Elizabeth maintained physical contact with Bertie and was shot in the same frame after he stuttered during his Speech. After eight years of war, the United States turned the responsibility for the defense of Iraq over to the Iraqi security forces. Iraq immediately saw the rise of sectarian violence among Sunnis and Shia. This nation also saw the reemergence of the insurgency known as Al Qaeda in Iraqin the northwest portion of the country. • 18. Leadership And Culture Of The Field Of Organizational... Leadership and Culture Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership, powerful leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization (Yukl, 2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically neutral ground for theories of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit assumptions about proper forms of influence. The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining by the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership, and (3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges (2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus on serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective leadership with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first developing a character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. As stated by Yukl (2006, p.357), servant leadership theory explains why the primary concern of leaders should be to nurture, develop, and protect followers. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert Newsom and her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These relationships affected more so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their weaker nature as perceived by the sexual differences of the time period between men and women in general. Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to stop his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system was unable to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change their beliefs about slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved previously in the case Dred Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the Southerners; however a man named John Jameson took her side and defended her and her actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of defense against his advances, and claimed she had the right, by law, to use deadly force to protect herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual relations with him. Though, because of the southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat them as inferiors, they did not deliver the evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge Hall denied the motion on October 13th and Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th. An example is the multigenerational Japanese families living in the United States as growing up the first generation made their entire families and future generations act very Americanized to assimilate into the community. This idea is not forgotten in Su s memoir when he talks about wearing a suit at Bob Big Boy s, I don t want to wear my suit. ... We are going to be eating with white people. If you don t look nice they will look down upon you (Su 57). Here Su mentions about how he does not want to wear his suit for something that seemed so trivial while his father insists he does so that they impress the white people that they can act and look like them. It can then be assumed that early on in his childhood, his family wanted to be like the white community so that they could better fit in when living in America. However, this proves to become contradictory later in the memoir when Su tells his father that he loves him. His father s response, Are you trying to imitate those white people by telling me those fucking words? (Su 150). For example the Kainai, which means many leaders , did not choose to be referred to as the Blood Nation (Bastien 2004, 10). There are many explanations as to how the Kanai became widely referred to as the Blood Peoples. One explanation is that it comes from a Cree term used to describe the Kanai by the red paint, which looks like blood, that is used in ceremony to paint their face and hands red. A second explanation is there was a mistranslation of a term used to describe the Kanai as wearers of white weasel pelts, to wearers of blood (Bastien 2004, 10). This mistranslation comes from the similarities of the words for blood and the term used to describe the changing of the white weasel pelts to white with the seasons (Bastien 2004, 10). In this case, the Kanai, through the use of their language are asserting their preference to be known as the many chiefs, over the Blood Peoples or the wearers of blood. The Enigma Of Capital And The Crisis Of Capitalism A Critical Review of David Harvey s The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism Sudheer Vemuru Economics 490 10 November, 2014 In writing this paper, I have abided by the Honor Code at UNC Chapel Hill. Signature:____________________ ______________________ пїј The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism is a forum for author David Harvey to voice his concerns on the contemporary global capitalist model. As a Marxist geographer and anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism through a lens of skepticism that results in a scathing renunciation of the capitalist goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction. Harvey argues that in a world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the capitalist process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and boom (40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the vast majority of the population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the power of capital and unable to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the extent of the problem we face in the wake of the Great Recession. The economy continues to grow modestly, while median household income shrinks (Noss 2). The capitalists are reloading once again at the expense of Main Street. As Harvey points out, there is a great need to reevaluate of our views of modern capitalism. The Enigma of Capital is just a starting point. Harvey begins his analysis of capitalism with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sellers describes America s massively growing capitalist market was history s most revolutionary force, and that this new push of capitalismwas wresting the American future from history s most conservative force, the land (Sellers, 4). This change in American culture turned a craft economy to a more laissez faire market of capitalism. The majority of Americans moved from self employment and bartering to industrial and factory style work, changing the system from bartering and trade to an hour and wage system that supported the growing consumer market. The past handmade items that were low in variety and unique then turned into items that could be made in a very large and identical capacity for profit. Further, this market revolution stressed Americans into unparalleled mobilization that now dictated the lives of everyone swept up in it (Sellers, 4). Sellers explains that the market promoted a competitive pursuit of wealth by open ended production of commodity which lured the American people into a false sense of individualism with each product they amassed (Sellers, 5). This created a new way to project the American image through the things that were owned. Bushman illustrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sayings of the Desert Fathers and The Rule of St. Benedict in English reveal what each road to the divine entails while explaining how the ascetic hermits and monks live for the mutual goal of reaching unity with God. These followers can be referred to as ascetic hermits since they heavily rely on self discipline rather than obedience. Hermits are constantly in journey, they don t have a permanent residency since they withdraw themselves from society and all other formal ways of living. In order to be an ascetic hermit, one must live off the food of the land, since they are living in complete isolation other than when they pass by monasteries and stay for a few days. Therefore, hermits must have discernment and be able to discipline themselves to stay on course with what God s scriptures tell them to do. If they fall off course, they pray and confess their sins to God. Abba Anthony in The Sayings of the Desert Fathers said that the great work of hermits was to always take the blame for his own sins before God and to expect temptation to his last breath (Ward 2). Everyone will always have temptations, it s what makes them human. However, it is one s own choice in whether to act on them or not. He places a great deal of emphasis on virtue. He goes on to say that heavenly love is good and only becomes ugly if a lover s motive is exploitation. Pausanias has brought out one of Diotima s major points, the idea of duality in love, although he is not as thorough. His overall outlook seems to be mainly homosexual, yet recognizes heterosexual love. Next, Eryximachus speaks. He compliments Pausanias on his explanation of the dual nature of love and argues that there should be a balance between the two. He elaborates on that by saying both types are required for a peaceful existence; one can not exist with out the other. He uses an analogy that equates love with an ailment. After reaching the southwestern Caribbean, convection intensified near the center and organized into a broad low on October 21, possibly due to a cold front that moved into the region. After a marked increase in convection near and west of the center, a tropical depression developed early on October 23 about 60 mi (97 km) north of Isla de Providencia. The depression moved northward into a weakness in a ridge near Florida, caused by a broad mid level trough over the Southeastern United States. Initially, the depression intensified gradually, becoming Tropical StormRina early on October 24. After a decrease in easterly windshear, however, Rina rapidly deepened while crossing warm waters, reaching hurricane status at 18:00 UTC on October 24 and becoming a major hurricane... • 45. Factors for Academic Success What is academic success dependent on? This has been the question for many psychological studies. To answer this question qualitative research needs to be done to investigate what hinders or promotes academic success. This essay will investigate these factors by way of interviews, while framing them in the context of current research. It will then be demonstrated how the Job Demands Resource model can be used to inform such a study. First though it will be shown why it is of the utmost importance to identify and understand these factors, in essence why such research should be conducted. I Reasons for the research Education is the forefront to any countries economic standing and through education there is a ripple effect that moves through the economy and society. It was found that in a developing country an increase of 1% in enrolment lead to a 0.1% increase in per capita GDP (Ogunade, 2011). Therefore understanding what hinders and aids students in their studies could potentially lead to a better economic status (Ogunade, 2011). There are 23 public universities in South Africa and the major problem facing them is high drop out rates and low retention (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). It has been observed that in 2007 20% of students dropped out after the first year of studies and an additional 30% after the second year, which indicates only 50% of students finished there degree and only 15% on the allotted time (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). ... • 46. Recollection Of Meno, Anytus And The Slave Boy Meno: My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates demonstration of recollection with the slave boy and the contrast between Meno, Anytus and the Slave boy. Socrates demonstrates what he refers to as recollection by asking Meno s slave leading questions until he is able to demonstrate to the boy that the length of the side of a square whose area has been doubled in size is not double of the previous length as the boy previously thought. This method, called the Socratic method, has been employed by different teachers of mine in the past while instructing me. It was interesting for me to find out about its origin. While reading the dialogue, it became clear that Meno did not have a teachable spirit (or he was unwilling to learn). The contrast if his, Anytus and the slave boy s attitudes showed a clear difference between someone who is willing to be instructed and someone who is not. Anytus seemed to be the most unwilling of the two because he refused to investigate before jumping to conclusions (as he did during the discussion about the Sophists). Phaedrus: My two most memorable scenes from this dialogue are Socrates idea of the soul and his story of Theuth and Thamus. Socrates described the soul as the innate power of a winged team of horses and a charioteer . In a man s soul, one of the horses is of good stock and the other is not. The better the stock of the man s horses, the higher his soul can fly, and the better his vision of things as they really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Implementation Of A Negotiation Is A Communication Method Negotiation Style A negotiation is a communication method in which several parties talk over problems and endeavor to solve them via discussion in order to reach a resolution (Lewicki, Barry, Saunders, 2011). Negotiations occur regularly on micro and macro scales, both in the professional or personal which could be at the office and or in everyday life. Your approach and style can make the different between a make or break deal. If attaining an agreement in a negotiation is based on collaboration and collaboration is based on trust, then to be an effective negotiator you need to spawn trust between yourself and the other party. Trust comes from being natural and being yourself, not from trying to be something you re not, a fake. Once you re aware of your negotiation style you know what can realistically be improved and what can t. • 48. Themes Of The Princess Bride And Diablo 3 And Billy Budd In literature, there are many written works which have themes that intermix with one another. While literature contains many themes, this does not mean that other works do not contain the same ideas as presented in written works. In the three stories of The Princess Bride , Diablo 3 and Billy Budd Violence and Quests can be seen largely throughout each tale. Violence, while still having the tradition sense of the word, does not always mean fighting someone or physical attacks. Violence thematically is the display of aggressive actions verbally, physically, or even aggression leading to a goal. The other overarching theme in these stories is that of a Quest. Any self realizing adventure where the protagonist realizes is considered a quest thematically as well as a large set goal for as seen within the story. The main themes of The Princess Bride, Diablo 3 and Billy Budd are Quests as well as Violence which show a deep connection on a thematic level. In The Princess Bride by William Goldman the story starts both as an explanation of the story s origin as well as where the story should go. Even in this prolog to the story a quest is outlined. And I realized that I had let control of it go. . . They could change anything they wanted. So I did something of which I am genuinely proud. I bought the book back from the studio, with my own money (Goldman xxxv). Even before the story begins a quest was set before the reader. The quest of a man to have the book he loved ... However, some people oppose the policy citing that it is the right of the citizens to ensure adequate protection. They hold that the policy should not apply as it is bound to infringe of the citizens basic rights (Totten Pedersen, 2012, p. 468). In my perspective and attitude, I think the introduction of gun control policy is a good idea whose time has come. This is evident since it will facilitate the prevalence of sanity in the nation that operates under strong democratic ideals. Gun control should be encouraged at all cost as it holds the capacity of eliminating social insanity. The existing similarities with the group to be put under study is that we are all US citizens who believe in respect to humanity, life, and rights, however, we differ on the moral aspect and the extent to which the use of guns should be allowed. I do not support the imposition of strict gun control policy although the group thinks that the policy should not be applied. I am not a native anthropologist, however, I like interacting with people of diverse background to understand the major issues that affects them including social matters. My aim of understanding the underlying issues is to contribute by influencing individuals viewpoints especially on issues that require critical thinking (Kuper, 2006, p. 1).
