2. This could be used to make students
formulate or construct in motivated manner.
Procedure:
1.) Select a topic that corresponds to your lesson
discussion.
2.) Present a question or picture of fun and useful
prompts which could get their attention.
3.
4.
5. Directions:
1. Organize the story starter cards below into three
groups.
A. Main Character
B. Setting
C. Plot
2. Choose one card at random from each group.
Students will write a story about the story
elements that were chosen.
6. Example: If the cards chosen were:
A. Main Character = Elf
B. Setting = Rainforest
C. Plot = A Treasure is Found
Then, students must write a paragraph or story
about an Elf in the rainforest who finds a treasure.

8. • The K-W-L Chart is an excellent strategy to help
children learn informational or report writing.
• K-W-L is a three-part thinking process which asks
the learner to respond: to what they know prior
to writing, what they want to know after they
have completed their reports, and what they have
learned after writing their reports.
The process performs three services.
1. It activates previous knowledge.
2. It provides a purpose for writing.
3. It provides a summary of what has been learned.
9. Procedure/Steps:
A. "Know" Step:
1) Initiate discussion with the students about
what they already know about the topic of the
text.
2) Start by using a brainstorm procedure. Ask the
students to provide information about where
and how they learned the information.
3) Help them organize the brainstormed ideas
into general categories.
10. B. "Want to Learn" Step:
1) Discuss with the students what they want to
learn from reading an article.
2) Ask them to write down the specific questions in
which they are more interested.
C. "What I Learned" Step:
1) Ask the students to write down what they
learned from the reading.
2) Ask them to check the questions they had
generated in the "Want to Learn" Step.

12. KNOW WANT TO KNOW LEARNED
It keeps us from floating
around.
It makes things fall.
There is less gravity on the
moon.
Isaac Newton discovered
gravity.
What is gravity?
Why is there less gravity on
the moon?
How did Newton discover
gravity?
What determines how fast
something will fall to the
ground? (teacher question)
Gravity is the force that pulls
objects towards Earth.
The amount of gravity there
is depends on the masses of
the objects involved. The
moon is a lot less massive
than the earth, so there is
less gravity on the moon
than there is on earth.
Air resistance determines
how fast something will fall
to the ground.
