2. Web Protocols
These are the rules that control how data from the internet accesses your
computer or laptop. Web protocols work in the background and common
examples of them are:
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secured (HTTPS)
Wireless Access Protocol (WAP)
Bluetooth
3. How web protocols influence my website
My website solely uses an HTTP web protocol when people access and use
it.
When I convert my website to a mobile medium, I could use the Bluetooth
web protocol to present the content of my webpage to all the different
users who will access my site.
4. My Research
I conducted a questionnaire in a group
of 3 in order to find suitable information
for the creation of my website.
I needed to ask different types of
questions about technology, websites
and film genres in order to hear about
various opinions. In the example
below, I was conducting qualitative
research; this is information that is
entirely opinionated and personal.
5. The main methods of digital communication
We use many ways of communicating digitally to discuss and exchange ideas
with people from around the world. The methods we use include:
Discussion forums – Reddit, 4chan
Email – Yahoo mail, Hotmail, Google mail.
MMORPGs – WoW, Runescape, Guild Wars
Instant messaging (IM) – MSN
Web Logs
Short Messaging System (SMS)
Newsgroups – BBC Online
Multimedia messaging system (MMS) –
Webcam communication software (e.g. Skype and
Facetime)
Internet – Different browsers such as
Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Explorer
Conferencing (with audio and video) – Skype
Bulletin boards
6. Digital communication on my website
My website will need to use certain examples from the previous slide in
order to provide an element of interactivity for the users. I plan on including
the following methods of digital communication in my finished website:
Discussion forums
Email
Bulletin boards
7. Domain Structure
The domain structure is a type of identifier system which can sort out
different IP addresses all over the internet.
Domain structure finds IP addresses, URLs and E-mail servers in order to sort
them out into different groups of computer systems.
The actual structure itself is always found at the end of a website URL;
common examples include “.com, .co.uk, .org”.
8. How is the World Wide Web applied?
The World Wide Web has many uses and functions in terms of
communication, data and information.
Using the internet gives users the ability and freedom to access webpages
and domains of different kinds, whether they are factual or just for
entertainment purposes.
9. How the web has changed since the mid90’s
During the mid-90’s, the internet was very non-commercial, artistic, and it
encouraged people to form their own online groups on early forum websites
such as Usenet. This site was one of the more prominent discussion boards
where users went to contribute and exchange their own ideas.
Nowadays, the internet is used a lot more as a means for advertising
products and services. The use of online adverts (e.g. pop-up ads) has
steadily increased over the years, showing that the internet has now
become more of a marketing tool, used by companies and entrepreneurs.
10. How people will use my website
My website, owned by Take 2 Movie Reviews™, specializes in reviewing
different categories of films by different famous actors/directors. For
example, in the image below, I am focusing on Simon Pegg movies for the
time being (hence the picture of Hot Fuzz). Different users from the internet
will use my site to read and watch reviews that I have made about these
films, and they will be able to access different pages within the site in order
to find out visual and factual information. As pictured below, users will have
access to sections such as “Introduction”, “Gallery”, “Video”, “Review
Blog”, “Contact” and “links”.
