2. THE LION•Lions are the
only cats that live in groups, which are called prides. Prides are
family units that may include up to three males, a dozen or so
females, and their young. Young males eventually leave and
establish their own prides by taking over a group headed by
another male.

4. LIFE CYCLE
The life circle of a lion starts when it is born. At birth, it is normally blind and
is cared for by its mother, who introduces it to the pride after eight
weeks.
• Sadly, approximately 80% of lions born at any one time die before the
age of two due to starvation and predation.
5. PREHISTORIC LIONS..
• Fossil evidence suggests that lions have roamed the world’s
wildernesses for approximately 1.8 million years, and were formally
the most widespread large land mammal on Earth
• They ranged through Europe, Asia, the Americas and throughout Africa.
