Rahman Mostafiz, officially named Md. Mostafizur Rahman, a poet and literary critic from Bangladesh, presented the Keynote paper titled "An Exploration of Cultural Healing in Derek Walcott's Omeros, a Hallmark of Modern Polyglossic Epic" in a seminar held on 31st January, 2015 at Maulana Bhashani Auditorium, University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC). Dr. Sukanta Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor of English, University of Chittagong, was the Chief Discussant of the seminar. Mr. Bhattachajee, with his pedantic insight, constructively analyzed almost each and every points and issues found in the paper, applauded though with no miser voices. Referring to his own scholarly articles on Derek Walcott, he appreciated the paper as one of the best pieces of well-researched articles on Derek Walcott’s Omeros. The Vice Chancellor of USTC Professor Dr. Provat Chandra Barua, in his speech as the Chief Guest, left no sugar-coated attributes remained unused while praising the young scholar Rahman Mostafiz for presenting the Keynote paper with a mesmerizing professional art. A set of panel discussants, comprising of two assistant professors of English one from Premier University Chittagong Mr. Saybal Shuvra Dev Roy and another from University of Science & Technology Chittagong Mr. Mosror Uddin Anowar, and a senior student Ms. Sharifatun Nahar from the department of English, USTC, continued their supplementary analyses and criticism on the paper for hours and more. The Maulana Bhashani Auditorium was pregnant with enthusiastic students who showed their deeper eagerness to catch the spirit of what Derek Walcott fabricated in the Omeros and also how scholarly Mr. Rahman Mostafiz explored Walcott's mechanism of making the entire Caribbean community aware of their cultural wounds leading to an ultimate healing. The second session of the seminar was open for all students to converse and communicate with distinguished discussants and Keynote presenter by asking them instant queries and questions relevant and related to the paper presented at the first session. The program was chaired by Professor Syed Md. Shahidullah, Chairman, Department of English Language & Literature, USTC who, in his concluding speech, thanked the university authorities, the organizers, the sponsors, and the audience to make this seminar a grand success. He also wished good luck to the Keynote presenter Mr. Rahman Mostafiz.
