Essay 1:
 A worker unloads 20kg sacks of apples from a
 conveyor and loads them onto a shute, from
 where they are dispatched. He loads for 2 hours
 per day at a rate of 5 sacks per minute. The
 height of the conveyor is 60cm and the height of
 the shute is 100cm. There is an angle of
 asymmetry of 45 degrees and the load is held 30
 cm from the body.
 Comment on the safety of the task and identify
 the risk factors.
Essay 2:
 Discuss what is meant by ‘fatigue’. How would
 an ergonomist go about investigating
 complaints of fatigue in manual work?
Essay 3:
 Distinguish between health and fitness. What
 measures can organization take to improve
 the health and fitness of their employees?
Essay 4:
 One group of workers in a factory are
 exposed to a noise level of 100dB(A) for8
 hours. In the adjoining work area, their
 colleagues are exposed to 70dB(A)for 8 hours.
 Management proposes introducing job
 rotation (everyone works for 4 hours in the
 noisy area and 4 hours in the quieter area) to
 bring the 8-hour exposure down to 85dB(A),
 on average, for everyone. Will management’s
 proposal work? In what way?
