What is imperialism?  . Imperialism is to rule a people or place through colonization, military power, economic or political power.  . Time period in the mid to late 1800s . European countries dividing Asia and Africa amongst themselves.  Old world map
How imperialism started?  . During the 1800's, European Countries and the United States started imperialism in Asia and Africa. . In 1841, Dr. Livingston started exploring the African Interior . Explorations of gold and diamonds in Africa spurred excitement in the Western Countries.  . The western nations wanted imperialism in Africa and Asia because of new economic movements such as raw materials and new markets to export their goods.
Reasons for imperialism…..  . Spread Christianity  . Needed raw materials . prestige . Markets to export goods rubber
