Embedding 21st century new technologies in the primary/elementary classroom
1. Using your imagination
with ICT
21st century ideas for embedding ICT in the curriculum
Thursday, 14 January 2010
2. Why are New Technologies so important?
SO much change: phonics; maths and literacy
frameworks; personalised learning; evidence of AfL;
QC(D)A changes; MFL demands for KS2 by 2008 (did
your school make it on time?); 5 hours per week
sports by 2009; international links in all schools by
2010; universal home access by 2011; and then the
Olympics in 2012…
• SO... why should we possibly remain innovative and
cutting edge or even up to date with ICT? Surely what we
already do is already enough?

43. So what should you be doing?
DO DON’T
• Be a learner • Feel you need to know
more than the pupils
• Let learning be
unstructured or unplanned
• Be professional • Fail to move with the times
and do what has always
been done
• Teach ICT skills on their
own
• Be relevant
