The Municipal "Antonio José de Sucre" Educative Unit has incorporated technology gradually due to economic and political factors. It has several computer labs with internet access, an English lab with licensed software, and all classrooms will have interactive whiteboards next year. However, there is no wireless internet and equipment is used mostly for specific subjects. According to a UNESCO model, the school is at the "applying" stage of ICT integration as methods are teacher-centered. To advance, the proposal is to provide intensive teacher training, include ICT in lesson plans, and monitor usage monthly with an expert.
4. Municipal Antonio José de Sucre” Educative Unit has
always been worried for being according to the
development of technology.
It has been difficult to incorporate the update
technology, especially for economical and political
factors, hence the use of ICT has been limited and
they have been inserted little by little.
5. This learning center counts with different
laboratories that use free software. They have a
computer, a projector, a DVD and a TV set.
Also, there is an English lab that has 24
computers and works with 2 licensed software.
Three computing labs that have 25 computers
each one; all of them have access to internet.
6.
7. There are 50 classrooms and all of them will work
with interactive whiteboards since next January, they
will use a licensed software.
This institution doesn´t count with a virtual platform
for giving classes on line.
The speed of internet is 4 megabytes, but it isn´t WIFI
connection

9. According to the Model presented in
most ICT integration in countries around
the world which is based on the UNESCO
publication in 2002, the Municipal
“Antonio José de Sucre” Educative Unit is
in the APPLYING STAGE due to:
10. Teachers-centered, it means that
methods, activities, and techniques are
given by the teacher who decides what is
to be learned, what is to be tested, and
how the class has to be run.

17. Proposal
Our group proposes that to reach the transforming stage this
institution should do this:
Teachers should acquire wider knowledge of what ICT really is
and the advantages that its usage in education gives.
Intensive and permanent training about the ICT usage.
To insert ICT activities in daily lesson plans.
To create study groups to share experiences and knowledge.
To promote challenging activities to engage students’ interest.
There should be a monitoring system to control the usage of
ICT by an expert at least once a month.
18. REFLECTION
It doesn´t matter how many technological
resources an institution has, the most important
thing is to develop teachers’ awareness to use ICT
in every day’s classes, it is possible to do, there
should not be any excuses and above all it is
necessary to create commitment in teachers to
apply ICT tools in the class, take advantages of the
technology and mainly to improve students’
learning outcomes.
