4.4 Communication and outreach
The session will focus on key considerations and best practices in communication and outreach in the formulation and implementation of NAPs. It will look at such issues as the purpose, objectives, channels for communications and outreach, and the role that media can play. It will also include examples from countries on their communication and outreach programmes.
5. Possible goals and objectives for communicating the process
• Communicating NAP documents and related outcomes (e.g.
through the NAP Central);
• Sharing of knowledge and facilitation of learning;
• Providing a better understanding of the gaps and needs;
• Communicating capacity-building needs;
• Communicating achievements on reducing vulnerability to climate
change;
• Matching needs with sources of support;
• etc.

6. What are the possible elements to be communicated
• A national vision on adaptation;
• Policy frameworks, mandate;
• Assessments of impacts, vulnerabilities and risks;
• Adaptation priorities at the national and subnational levels;
• Overview of ongoing and planned adaptation actions;
• Communication and outreach strategies;
• Capacity gaps and needs;
• Required support (finance, technology and capacity-building)
needed for the formulation and implementation of NAPs;
• Monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

7. Means for communication of climate change adaptation information
At the national level
• Policy briefs, posters and brochures for communicating major
milestones or outputs on efforts to address climate change
adaptation;
• Local electronic and print media (television, radio and newspapers);
• Websites of the lead agency on adaptation and of other key
stakeholders, which can serve as a repository of national strategies
and plans and reflect progress;
• Integration of information on latest findings on local effects of
climate change implications into seasonal/climate forecast bulletins.
