This campaign was officially launched on 2 October
2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister
Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road.

• A campaign organized by the government of
India to remove the sanitation problem.
• It includes backward statutory towns and
convince people to make cleanliness.
• The campaign is India's biggest ever cleanliness
drive and 3 million government employees and
schools and colleges students of India participated
in this event.

nominated nine famous personalities for the
campaign, and they took up the challenge and
nominated nine more people. It has been carried
forward since then with people from all walks of
life joining it.

He made cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of
the Gandhian way of living. His dream was total
sanitation for all.
“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with
their dirty feet.”
7. CONCEPT OF CLEAN INDIA CAMPAIGN
The concept of clean India campaign is to pave access for
every person to:-
a. Sanitation facilities including Toilets, Solid and Liquid
Waste Disposal Systems, village cleanliness
and
b. Safe and adequate drinking water supply.
We have to achieve this by 2019 as a befitting tribute to
Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th. Birth
anniversary.
8. • In India, access to the facilities like sanitation and safe
drinking water is still a very distant dream. No doubt India is
progressing in the other aspects, but lack of sanitation and
facilities like drinking water have acted as an impediment to
the development process. These rights are not important only
to health and the sustainable development, but it is also very
essential for the removal of poverty of the country and overall
growth of the country. According to the latest estimates by the
United Nations, around 600 million people of the
country(India) defecates in the open environment, which is
maximum than in any other country.

9. • Singapore is a small country but one of the best places
to live in Asia. Singapore has emphasized to have good
water, pure air, clean energy, proper water conservation,
efficient energy supply and controlled traffic.
• The Prime Minister on teacher’s day gave his speech to
thousands of students in Japan, he visits to Japan to
emphasize how spirit of cleanliness was being given to
the children in that country. Cleanliness is a part and
parcel of life in Japan. Here, each and every citizen
contributes towards cleanliness.
• Sanitation policy is within a single ministry in the
south Korea , but are run through multiple ministries. It
is not in the top ranks as the cleanest country but it is
definitely in a better position than India

• Organise different awareness programs on
cleanliness and sanitation.
• Construction of toilets in School and Public
place.
• Make people aware about health issues.
• Proper management of solid and liquid wastage.
