1. Training Workshop for Site Managers takes place in Amman
The Department of Antiquities/ATHENA Project of Ancient Theaters Enhancement for
New Actualities is holding a training workshop titled “Training for Sustainability Site
Management Plan: From Theory to Practice”.
The workshop, which will take place in Amman, is for site managers and those working
in heritage sites in the DoA will be held in two periods (18-22 November, 2012) and (6-
10 January, 2013) is for archaeological site managers, those working in the different
sites in Jordan and those interested from the Department of Antiquities in Amman.
The first training will have a practical side to be carried out in the Jarash Archaeological
Site which is serving as a case study for the sessions.
The workshop is carried out by trainer Silvia Barbone from Jaylag, an international
consultancy based in Brussels, to develop effective instruments for the creation of
methodological management plans and guidelines for the sustainability of ancient
theaters.
There is a distinct framework to the training and structure of the workshops
characterized by the “learning by doing approach", in that trainees listen, interact with
the trainer and be taken to Jarash as a final objective for the utilizations and
applications of the elements of site management in the archaeological digs.
The aim of the training is to develop the knowledge, awareness and principle
understandings related to site management plans, implementation and sustainable
tourism. The sessions are expected to create an environment of site management, roles,
principles and obligations for heritage and culture within the framework of tourism
sustainability.
In addition to a “Certificate of Attendance”, trainees will have the opportunity to
participate in receiving a diploma in “Project Management for Sustainable
Development.
