Molecular compounds are composed of molecules held together by covalent bonds where atoms share electrons. A molecule is a neutral group of atoms joined by covalent bonds, such as diatomic molecules consisting of two atoms of the same element like H2, N2, O2. Molecular compounds form between two nonmetals or a nonmetal and metalloid and have lower melting and boiling points than ionic compounds. They are often gases or liquids at room temperature and do not conduct electricity. Molecular formulas show the number of each type of atom in a molecule but not the molecular structure.
