2. MODELS
Name: Amy Estrop
Artist Name: Alisha Dales
Hair: Brown
Style: Indie
I decided to use Amy
as my magazine
model as her dark hair
goes well with the
male artists I have
decided to use also.
She has a unique style
that fits in well with
the indie-music style of
my music magazine.
3. MODELS
Name: Megan
Burnett
Artists Name: Alisha
Dales
Hair: Black
Style: Punk Rock
I decided against using
Megan as my model
as her image and style
fits more with a punk/
rock style of magazine.
Her height is also an
issue so when she
stands next to my
male artists she is
nearly taller than him
which does not looks
good on images.
4. MODELS
Name: Ellis
Carlin
Artist Name:
Roman Heds
Hair: Black
Style: Indi/ Rock
I have decided to use
Ellis as my model as
his jaw line is define
which allows me to
create the effect I
hope for on my front
cover. As well as this
he looks good
standing with Amy.
His style fits in well
with the style of
magazine I am
creating.
5. MODELS
Name: Luke
Birkbeck
Artist Name:
Roman Heds
Hair: Brown
Style: Pop
I decided against
using Luke as my
model as he has more
of a smart classic
style. He looks too
punctual to feature in
my indie magazine.
As well as this is jaw
line isn’t defined
enough to loose the
image of his face and
replace it with a filter
colour.
6. ï‚¡ My front cover is based on front covers produced by notion. I
decide that I wanted the female artist to be smaller than the
main image in the centre of the page to emphasise the
creativeness of the face.
ï‚¡ I have only used the artists that will be featured in my double
page spread on my front cover however I have replaced the
face of the male artists with a filter over to create an eerie
effect to go with the name of the featured band.
FRONT COVER
7. CENTRAL IMAGE
Due to the fact I
was going to be
deleting the
facial expression
from the image I
was not bothered
about what the
face looked like
on the image. I
needed the
image to be on
the right angle
and have the jaw
line visible so it
would be easy to
add the filter to
the image.
8. CENTRAL IMAGE
I decided on this
image as the
background would be
easy to delete from
the image.
The angle of the
image is what I
wanted as the
face is straight
and facing toward
the camera and
not on an angle.
The jaw line is visible so that once the facial expression is deleted you will still
be able to fill in the image with a sharp outline of the face. It does not show
too much of his neck just a small enough amount so the white filter in the
face does not blend in the with white background of the page.
9. FEMALE IMAGES
Due to the fact I
have decided to only
use one female
model on the front
cover of my page
and in the band then
I need the model to
be positioned in two
different ways. Both
of the images are
positioned in a
provocative pose so
that it entices male
readers. The black
colour scheme fits in
well with the bands
name.
10. I have decided on these two
images as her facial expression
is plain and simple she is not
grinning too hard at the camera.
FINAL FEMALE IMAGES
I liked the positions that she is posing
in and how the images are full body
long shots and not close up to
emphasise the effect that the face is
bigger than the female model
11. ï‚¡ My contents page first started off with a background created
by musical note stamps on Photoshop. To correspond my
design with the Band that my magazine focuses on and the
outline of the page I decided to choose a skull instead. I
visited the school art department where I found a goat skull, I
decided however a human a skull would look better. In the
science department there was a full body skeleton so I
decided to take images from different angles on the skull,
this was the outcome:
CONTENTS PAGE
12. SKULL IMAGES
In these two images you can
see the pins that hold the
facial bones together making
the image look less realistic.
My audience and I agreed that this
angle was too in your face and it
would be better to take the image
from a distance at an angle so you
can see the head and the features of
the face.
The lighting in the image was
not correct, despite the fact I
could edit this on Photoshop I
decided it would be more
effective if the original image
was a darker tone.
Not only this you can only see
one eye socket and to listen to
my audience opinion I needed
an image with all the features
on he face visible.
13. SKULL IMAGES
This is the final image I
decided on. I thought that if I
edited the background and
the extras surrounding the
face I would have a sufficient
human skull. I added an
effect to the image to create
a stamp effect.
Out of the 9 people in my
class that I asked, they each
said this image would be best
to use, as the angle shows all
of the features of the skull,
without being too full on.
14. ï‚¡ I have also added images down the centre of the page. The
images show the different artists and band that are featured
in the magazine. I have decided on these images based on my
own personal opinion, other peers opinions, based on the
different mise-en-scenes and the fact some of the images
have been taken from actual concerts that I have visited.
CONTENTS PAGE
15. ï‚¡ In my head I have decided that
class dale sounds like a band
made up of female artists.
Because of this I have taken
various images of girls
positioned in and around
school. Initially I thought of
using two girls as models, and
I positioned them against two
different style walls, In one of
the photos I didn’t not think
the lighting was right so I
excluded this image straight
away. The second photo didn’t
look professional so I changed
the whole design and took an
image of 4 girls. This image
looked more professional and
worked well with my idea of
Photo shopping a stage in the
background.
CLASS DALE IMAGES
16. FINAL CLASS DALE
With a little bit of work on Photoshop I was able to edit the simplest background of
this image to a stage in the background. I was also able to brighten the image and
add a greyscale effect.
17. THE REVENANT IMAGE
As much as possible I have
tried to change the mise-en-
scene of my images so for this
image I thought a recording
studio would be best. I tried to
set up the practice room so it
looked as much like a
recording studio as possible.
The problem I faced when
taking the images was either
Ellis looked good and
professional and Amy didn’t or
Amy looked professional and
Ellis’s facial expression didn’t
fit the look I was going for. I
settled for the image on the
top right hand corner as they
both have a professional look
with the recording studio set up
in the background.
I liked this image as Ellis looks like he's enjoying
playing his music whereas Amy looks uninterested.
Unrealistic image as Ellis’s facial expression is too
cheesy and unprofessional whereas Amy looks like
she's enjoying her music.
Neither one of the model’s facial expression suited the image. It
looks unprofessional
18. FINAL REVENANT IMAGE
I decided on this a y final image as both models look professional. The mise-en-
scene suit the recording studio that I was looking for and it shows the band in
action which is something the audience will like.
19. HARRIET DELVINE
The Notion double page spread that I have
based my own double page spread on has a
simple image of a female artists on the right
hand side of the page. I liked this idea and
decided to choose a model with an innocent
look to be placed down my magazine.
The first image I took ( above) I didn’t like as there is too many
loose strand of hair and the image looks like she’s focusing
on the image being taken. I decided I liked the image more
when the model was looking away from the camera almost as
though she doesn’t know the image is being taken. I
explained the reasoning as to why I preferred the second
photo to the model and she agreed that the second image
was more effective.
20. CONCERT IMAGES
These are the 5 concert images I had
previously taken that I had left on my
phone. They are taken from the script
concert in 2015 and a take that
concert in 2013. When stretching the
take that images they became
pixelated and the images looked more
effective in colour rather than when the
were in black and white. Due to this is
decided to use the script images on the
contents page.
21. ARTICLE IMAGE ON CONTENTS
I took my models to the
graveyard to take these images
to change the mise-en-scene.
The graveyard background fits
in well with the name of my
band featured in the magazine.
Me and both of the models
agreed that the image on the
contents page should be
similar to the image that I am
going to feature on my double
page spread.
I felt like in these two images the
picture focus around the gravestone
rather than the artists themselves.
This image was taken as a long shot and
you could not see the artists very well
despite the face the flowers in the image
was a nice added feature.
22. CONTENTS PAGE IMAGE
I decided on this full body shot of my artists as my image down the centre of
my contents page. It is a long shot of the close up shot I have decided to use on
my double page spread. I liked how you could clearly see the background in
the image and how the models were positioned close to each other showing
that they are close. This fits in well with the article I have written as they are
two friends that have been recognised and have made it in the music industry.
23. FINAL CONTENTS IMAGE
I decided that the
image looked more
effective as an
extreme close up
rather that medium
close up as it looked
more professional
under the mise-en-
scene. I liked how it
looked professional
and almost like it was
being taken whilst the
artist was recording a
piece of music.
24. ï‚¡ I decide on this image as
once it was cropped and
changed to grey scale it
looked professional.
ï‚¡ It has a different mise-en-
scene to the other
images.
ï‚¡ It is a image of a male to
emphasise the fact that
the magazine is unisex
and for all genders.
LAST IMAGE
25. ï‚¡ This page is effectively to introduce the readers to the band. I
have decided to use an image that is different to the image
that I have used on the double page spread. As the image on
the double page spread has the background of a graveyard
rather than the band in production I thought that the audience
would like to see the band doing what they do best… perform.
INTRODUCTION PAGE
26. INTRO PAGE
I chose this image as they both look like they are
performing. Once I had deleted the background of the
studio out of the image it looked like an image of them
performing and it looks more realistic than the other
images I took. I also like the fact this image is a close
up rather than the long shot of the studio on the
contents page.
27. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
ï‚¡ Since myself and the models decided that the image on the double page
spread should be similar to the image I have used on the contents page I
decided to use one of the images I took in the graveyard.
ï‚¡ The image is a medium close up of the artists in the mise-en-scene that
links with the name of the band.
