2. How Natyashastra came into
existence
• It is in a mythical form.
• It’s myth about the Natyashastra
that the God Indra has requested
to Lord Brahma to create
something which is delightful to
eyes and pleasing to ears.
Brahma took the element of song
‘Samaveda’, ‘the tandava’ from
God Shiva and ‘Lasya’, from
Goddess Parvati. And he
compiled the ‘Natyashastra’.

were divided
into four parts

 It is an encyclopedic work having 37
chapter and its deal with various topics,
which are necessary for the production
and presentation of the drama before
the spectators.
“Natyashastra is the foundation
of fine arts in India”

5.  The four Vedas were created by Brahma.
 Myth: Brahma created the fifth Veda called Natyaveda.

7.  Bharat said that sentiment is achieved as a result of the
functioning of the:
 Vibhavas means determinates and the
objective condition causing
an emotion.
 Vyabhichari bhavas- secondly emotion
and sensations which feed the dominant
emotion and transitory state of mind.
 Vibhavas include person as well the
circumstances that cause or excite the
emotion.
 Body language experience and non-
verbal elements are known as
anubhavas

8.  Bharat gives details about songs to be used in drama. They are
called Dhruvas.
Stringed instruments are called Tata.
Wind blown instruments are called Sushira.
Percussion instruments are called Avanaddha.
Cymbals are called Ghana.

9. To Wind Up:
 Therefore we can say that The combination called natya
is a mixture of Rasas, bhavas,abhinayas, dharmas, vrittis,
pravrttis, svaras, etc.
