3. VRV or VRF ?
What’s the difference between VRV and VRF?
Many people who ask this question, mistakenly interpret it as 2
different HVAC technologies. Actually, those are two different
terms for the same type of HVAC technology. Based on Inverter
technology compressors, the first VRV HVAC systems were
invented by Daikin during the early 1980’s. As a technology leader
in the HVAC industry, Daikin had registered the VRV term (which
stands for Variable Refrigerant Volume) as an official trademark.
All other companies use VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) for their
similar HVAC systems. Eventually, VRF is the more common term
for these types of systems, and this is the term that will be used
for the rest of the article.
8. ASHRAE defines the VRF as follows: "It is a multi-split
system direct expansion (DX) incorporating at least one
variable capacity compressor, which distributes coolant
through a network of pipes to multiple indoor units of air
conditioning, each of which is capable of controlling the
temperature of separate zones through control devices
integral temperature zone and a common communications
network. The variable refrigerant flow uses three or more
steps in the shared control and intercommunicating pipe ".
9. The AHRI defines VRF follows: "Multi-split system VRF: A heat
pump or multi-split air conditioning incorporates a single
refrigerant circuit, with one or more outdoor units, at least one
variable speed compressor or a combination of reciprocating
compressors for varying the capacity of the system in three or
more steps, several inner air-conditioning units (each of which is
measured separately), and are individually controlled by a
device integral control and a network common communication.

20. EFFICIENT DESIGN-فؼبل تصميم
Without using large distribution ducts, the Multi
V system removes losses that are unavoidable in
other systems. In addition, the use of optimized
scroll or rotary compressors, specially designed
heat exchangers, and inverter technology, the
Multi V system minimizes energy consumption to
levels previously unattainable by non-VRF
systems. The modular design offers comfort on
demand allowing the choice to use the system
only in the zones where it is needed further
promoting reduced energy consumption.
