8. SAINT PATRICK’S DAY
Saint Patrick, known as St Paddy too, is the patron saint
of Ireland. He was born in a village in Wales and brought
Christianity to Ireland, converting many pagans to
Christianity. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated every year on
March 17 in his honour. There are no snakes in Ireland
but there is a legend that at the time of Saint Patrick
there were lots of snakes and he chased them all into
the Irish Sea.
Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated all around the world,
especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada and
the United States. Originally, the colour associated with
Saint Patrick was blue. However, over the years the
colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's Day
grew. It is said that St Patrick’s used the shamrock, a
three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the
pagan Irish.
