2. 7 Fastest Way to Get Rid of
a Hickey
• Cold Method
• Toothbrush or Comb
• Hot Method
• Coin Method
• Tuna Oil
• Peppermint / Mint
Toothpaste
• Vitamin K Cream
3. Cold Method
• Take the spoon, wet it
and put it in the freezer
for around twenty
minutes. Once the
spoon is freezing cold,
lay it over the spot on
your neck where the
hickey is and the hickey
will decrease in color
and size.
4. Toothbrush or Comb
• Lightly brush the hickey and the area around it with a stiff-
bristled toothbrush or a comb. Doing this stimulates
circulation, but pressing too hard can make the hickey
worse, so be gentle.
• Wait about 15 minutes. The redness and swelling will
spread, but will be less obvious after about 15 minutes.
• Apply a cold compress, as above.
• Repeat if necessary. Depending on the magnitude of your
hickey, this method may work or it may just spread the
discoloration a bit.
5. Hot Method
• Place a hot water bottle or
warm compress on the
area of the hickey for 10-
20 minutes.
• Warning! Do not use the
hot method within 48
hours of receiving the
hickey. The burst capillaries
may not have healed
completely, and increasing
blood flow to the area
could make your hickey
bigger!
6. Coin Method
• Find a coin (penny, nickel,
quarter, euro, rupees, no
need to be picky!).
• Use two fingers to pull back
the skin on either side of
the hickey and stretch it flat.
• Your skin will be red from
the scraping when you are
done, but this will go away
in a few minutes and
hopefully your hickey will
too!
7. Tuna Oil
• A home remedy when tuna oil is placed on the
hickey and left to stay for around five minutes
was also reported to work. Thereafter, the
tuna oil is washed off leaving useful Vitamin E
and Omega that are crucial for regeneration of
skin.
8. Peppermint / Mint
Toothpaste
• Get peppermint oil, mint oil, a lotion like mint-
east, or, if you can’t find any of those then mint
toothpaste.
• Apply a layer to the area of your hickey. This will
begin to tingle.
• Once the tingling has stopped, remove the
toothpaste with a warm damp towel.
• Warning! You can repeat this treatment, but
don’t do it too much as it may cause local
irritation of the skin. This method works very well
to increase circulation and break up the clot.
9. Vitamin K Cream
• Vitamin K cream helps
in absorbing the blood
clot on top of the skin
and by doing so reduces
the intensity of the skin
discolouring. Its
disadvantage is that it is
not easily available.
