  • “What do you hope to accomplish with your new superintendent within the first five (5) years? What is your vision for the future of Oxford Community Schools?” Board President’s answer: “We do not have a vision, we hope to create a shared vision with our new superintendent.”They knew Oxford was falling behind, but not sure why?Intuitively they need they needed change – but was not sure what type of change they needed. They were looking for innovation but they did not know what it looked like. They had been cutting educational programs and curriculums for six years, laying off staff, and they instituted pay to participate for athletics. One board member stated after I was hired, “we do not need to reinvent the wheel like you did in your previous school district, we just need a little air in the tires.” Boy, not only did we not reinvent the wheel, we changed the entire mode of transportation and trajectory! There was a huge discount between where some board members thought they needed to go versus the stark reality. Proactive: Happening to things instead things happening to you. Face your Fear: Identify it and attackTheory will not become practice unless you do it!Must PlanMust Implement &Must be intentional! We cannot out earn our stupidity. We must stop the insanity of cutting student programs and start investing. The earlier you start, the greater the return! But it also requires that you know what to do. Otherwise, you will be great at preparing students for a world that no loner exists.
  • We began implementing a two-day a week, 30 minute program in 2009-10 (grades 3-4).
