1. The Wombats “The Modern Glitch” Digipack Analysis
The image to the right displays the
front cover of The Wombats album
“The Modern Glitch”. My first
impression of the front cover of the
digipack is that it is very
extraordinary. It shows a frequent
amount of people (including the
band members) enjoying a picnic
on the beach. They seem to be
holding an image of a sofa in front
of their faces. This is rather random
and doesn’t really signify any of the
songs or the bands name. They all
seem to be covering their faces,
which could suggest they want to
be mysterious and/or unidentifiable.
It could have some form of meaning
like it’s all about the music. The CD cover is very colorful and appealing to the
eye, which would be expected of an indie band like The Wombats. Because of
the amount of people shown in the image, it could mean that the album is
meant to be shared and listened to with friends. The outfit that the people are
wearing is similar to what the listeners of the music would wear; it fits the
genre of music.
The CD for the album is very
unusual (just like the front cover).
The bright yellow makes the CD
stand out rather substantially. The
colour makes the robot image look
like it has been pencil drawn on.
The fact that the robot is hand
drawn makes it fit more towards
the individual feel of the digipack. It
also makes it more unique to the
band and therefore adds to the
authenticity of the album. The robot
that is on the disk could be
associated with the future and
modern times. The “glitch” in the
album that could mean a temporary malfunction of an electronic device, also
can mean an unexpected setback in plan.
2. The back of the album cover follows
the same recurring theme by a face
being covered which once again
gives the mysterious feel towards the
album/music. However, instead of
the sofas, there is a track list, which
gives us some acknowledgment of
what is on the CD. We also have two
different peoples hands in the frame.
Both wearing nail varnish, which
insinuates they are both girls.
