What is Peer Review? Peer review is the process that a writer uses to obtain feedback on drafts or unfinished work from a colleague - our classmates in this case
Who does peer review? YOUwill do the peer review You are a member of this class, which means you are a peer of your classmates The entire class will participate in the process
Why do Peer Review? Helps us improve our writing Common practice for professional and academic writers Part of the CSUEB composition program
How does peer review work? 30-minute session conducted in class Bring two copies of the first draft of your essay and two copies of Peer Review Form Work in groups of four Two of your groups members will read your essay Each reviewer will complete a Peer Review Form  and will write on the essay as needed Opportunity to discuss feedback Revise essay based on feedback
What should I say and how?	 Be positive “I like  …“ Be specific “I think the first sentence in paragraph  2 … “ Be kind “I’m confused about …” Focus on overall improvement “I can’t find your summary.”

Sample Paragraph In article “Understanding the College First-year Experience, Kirk talks a lot. He say student hard time. College very no good, so hard they leave. Kirk say students need learn to do stuff different. Learn more talk to you teacher. Learn different there is no right/wrong answer. What you think? That is a good way. By the end of first year, student is different. They are better. They can do the work and they know how to think.
