1. 7) Music & sound: ▫What type of music is used (describe it) ▫Why is this
used? What effect does it have on the audience? ▫What sort of sound can
we hear? Why? ▫At what parts of the trailer do they use different sounds?
▫Use of silence? What sound signifiers are used to help establish the
genre? What have you learnt from this research that will help you when
making your own trailer?
At first in the trailer of 22 Jump Street, they use RnB music because in that scene
Doug is pretending to be a gangster. RnB music is used because that type of music
suits the situation. The music is very loud, and catchy so the audience is attracted to
it. In the song there is a certain sound/beat that is very loud, and when that beat
comes in the song, the picture shot or video shot changes. When the scene changes
to a happy scene, the song changes to a happy scene. In a few parts of the trailer
there is no sound at all, there is no music, I think this is really effective because this
means that the audience has to focus on what is happening in the trailer/film
nothing else. From this research I have learnt that the music has to suit the scene,
so I can’t have a sad song playing in the background of a happy scene.

Relevance: This research is very useful because it gives me tips about my trailer.
My source is very useful because I can watch the trailer and work on it
8) Institutional Aspects: Look at some trailers from your genre and
identify what institutional aspects are present and what their purpose is.
E.g. Are there inter titles? Inter titles are when text explaining the
narrative appears in between scenes. What do they say and how do they
encourage people to want to see the film? What Institutional logos are
there at the start? Are any reviews included throughout the trailer? Are
any awards mentioned? Are the actors or directors names mentioned?
Does it say "From the producers of...." If any of these things are there,
what effect do they have on the audience? At the end of the trailer, what
institutional aspects are shown? - Name of film, age rating, website,
Facebook page, hashtags etc? Why are they used? (Methodology table.

2. There are many institutional aspects that are present in film trailers and they all
have purposes, for example in the trailer of Kick ass, the institution logos at the start
are “Lionsgate” and “Marv”. There are short and snappy inter titles, for example
“They can’t fly” “but they can kick your ass”. In my opinion the second inter title is
effective because the movie is called kick ass, they are trying to put in a few jokes.
There are no reviews included, there are no awards mentioned, the names of the
actors or directors are not mentioned, it does not mention another film by saying
“from the producers of…”. The name of the film is included at the end, they just slap
it onto the screen, the font is big and colorful so the audience is attracted to it and
know what the film is called, straight after that the date of the release is included in
a good font, but also they put a voice in the background saying the release date as
well, this is good because the audience obviously needs to know when the release
date is. At the beginning of the trailer, the first thing that comes up is the restricted
audience bit. It says under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. This
shows that there are some scenes that might be inappropriate and there might be
inappropriate language. The Name, age rating and release date of the film is always
needed in a trailer because that is the information that the audience needs to know.
