The Eighth Annual Slovak Fashion Night is the signature event of the +421 Foundation,
in partnership with the Consulate General of Slovakia in New York, Austrian Cultural Forum,
and the Czech Center New York. The event will be held at the quintessential ultra lounge,
Marquee, in Manhattan on May 10th, 2013.
This year’s Slovak Fashion Night motto, “Fashion Unites Us”, will introduce the Slovakian
designers: Slavomira Vlasova (the winner of Bratislava Fashion Days) with her collection
“Moments of Life“; Silvia Kissova, Filip Placko (students of Fashion Design Studio at the
University of Visual Arts in Bratislava) with their collection “Spirit of Space” inspired by the
Chrysler Building in Manhattan. Maria Stranekova’s collection “Eternity” accentuates the
uniqueness of human existence and feminine beauty; in tandem with the „Newintage”
collection by “Czechdesign”, representing Czech students of the Tomas Bata University in
Zlin. The evening’s theme commemorates the 20th anniversary of the autonomous Slovakia,
as well as the Czech Republic.
The guest star of the show will be Maria Steiner from Vienna, Austria, presenting the latest
trends in Austrian fashion with her label “Ruins of Modernity”. The concept encompasses
clean architectural shapes, grown-up emancipated elegance, reduction & minimalism.
Guests will have an opportunity to view a fashion show choreographed by Sandra Sabbahi,
intercepted with a musical performance by the young Slovakian violin virtuoso, Filip Pogady.
Slovakia’s very own Double Cross Vodka will provide delicious cocktails to all in attendance
while DJ Eitan Noyze spins the after party.
Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Plus421 Foundation and its educational
programs of artistic exchange supporting emerging artists in Central Europe.
The aim of this event is to expose influential American audiences to the cultural, intellectual
and social richness of Slovakia and the Central European Region. The continued goal,
through awareness, is embraced by creating opportunities for collaboration amongst artists,
designers, and performers; ultimately prompting to explore and encourage innovative
partnerships between leaders from various public and private sectors of Slovakia, Czech
Republic, Austria, and the United States.
