Editor's Notes
There are many reasons why a student in your classroom will act in order to not participate in the days activities.
If we understand why they are misbehaving, we can be more successful at reducing the behavior problems.
The whole reason for the misbehavior is so that student will not have to be active at all. But remember....
Its our jobs to ensure that a student receives the right amount of daily physical activity. – 30 minutes a day
Don’t let a students actions allow him/her to sit out of physical activity.
Simply remove the student from the normal classroom, and have him/her perform other forms of physical activity by themselves.
Running laps, running lines, running in place
Push-ups
Curl-ups
Jumping Jacks
This will show the students that no matter what, they will have to be active in your classroom, they can choose to be active with the rest of the class or on their own.
Letting your student not participate simply because he/she is not dressed down doesn’t make much sense.
If they are choosing be uncomfortable, and making the choice to not wear suggested attire, then so be it.
But that choice does not, cannot, remove them from activity for the day.
If you use physical activity as a form of punishment for those students that misbehave, you will be setting an example for your entire class.
The other students will see that regardless of behavior, physical activity will be performed.
Making a student run laps will remove the distraction.
Doing this will allow the rest of your class to remain on task
You are the leader in the classroom, make sure the students know that. It’s your responsibility to guide
Punishment sticks with a person, if the punishment is severe enough, it will leave a lasting mark on that student, and can prove to be very effective both long term and short term.
Using physical activity as a form of punishment is used in all sorts of environments.
In athletics the coaches use it to get their players to perform more effective
The military uses it to focus their troops. To keep them on-point, ready for anything.
This is a widely used technique that will keep your students from being off task.
If they know that punishment lies ahead for misbehavior, and they know the punishment is running laps all by themselves, chances are you won’t have many problems if you use physical activity as a form of punishment.
Using physical activity as a form of punishment is a quick, easy method to regain control of your classroom.
This is a quick, easy way to make the other students in your class that if they are off-task they will pay for their misbehavior.
