2. The paragraph is a grammatical structure that contains a main idea and
sentences related to these. Paragraph is defined as the group of all
sentences that have a common purpose or central idea. You can find a
set of paragraphs in news, in an article, a report, an essay, a novel and
a story.
These can be distinguished visually because it is separated into blocks with
or without indentation and separated by whitespace. The extension of
the paragraph or the number of sentences that compose is variable
and is determined by the central idea that it develops.

3. There are four types of paragraphs:
Descriptive
Narrative
Argumentative
Expository

4. A descriptive paragraph is one that aims to represent the appearance of something or someone,
explaining its features, parts, or qualities.
There is endless element to describe, from the way a person dresses as feeding, habits,
customs, etc. A descriptive paragraph presented through the words sensorimotor ability of a
human being, an author uses all his senses to delineate the attributes of both people and
objects as perceived events.
The description of the persons referred portrait expresses the physical features of a person: eye
color, hair length, some trait of character, qualities and defects, among others.
To make a good description is necessary:
• Globally observation which will be described
• Select the most important features
• Decide on an order that will make the description

5. Example:
“ Mr. Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance, that was
never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse;
backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow
levable”1

Descriptive paragraph
6. Narrative paragraph tells about a story, a situation or
event orderly and chronological way. For example:
“Mr. Utterson was sitting by his fireside one evening
after dinner, when he was surprised to receive a visit
from Poole.”2

Narrative paragraph
7. This paragraph is characterized in that search argue about a point of view or opinion, so these
reasons expressed by argument, as the name implies. Through argumentation, express
fundamental ideas to defend or refute the thoughts or ideas of another. The argument is
based on the conviction, reasoning, persuasion, demonstration and of human knowledge.
To write a good argumentative paragraph is advisable to follow these steps:
● The first thing you should do is to take time to think what is the point to argue? And, what is
its position?
● Try to provide the best arguments, without having to disqualify others.
● You must write a clear first sentence on the subject. In this sentence to display your
position, while the angle you chose to address the issue. This sentence should show
whether you are in favor or against the topic.

8. EXAMPLE ARGUMENTATIVE PARAGRAPH
“Many people believe that the word "diet” means eating less and only those foods that we do not like. It is a
prejudice that prevails in much of society. However, diet actually means the way a person eats. Some have a
healthy diet and others less so. Who does not like to eat all you want without having to worry about how many
calories you have to know a certain food? However, if we abuse with little nutritious diet, the results for our
health can be serious. One of the consequences of a poor diet is the disease known as diabetes. It is a
disease that affects millions of people worldwide. The worst thing is that, so far, failed to find a cure for this
disease. Diabetes in the definition of the World Health Organization (WHO) is a chronic disease that occurs
when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not effectively use the insulin it
produces. Such Organizations estimates that there are over 300 million people affected. Among the many
recommendations made by (WHO) to prevent diabetes, which rescued speaks of “Achieving and maintaining a
healthy body weight" I mean, maintaining a balanced diet is an excellent way to fight this disease”.

9. The paragraphs expository, information present of form
clear and orderly.
They are responsible for providing information about
different events not including subjective comments.
Its purpose is the dissemination of events, not to
convince the reader.

domesticated canid that has the sense of smell
highly developed. There are many breeds of dog,
which makes copies of this species may have quite
different characteristics".

12. 1. Opening: To attract the reader. It is the way to call the attention. It´s
better to do it at the end because you have all the information and you
can have good bases to write an opening paragraph. It can use
interrogative sentences, dating, anecdote or synthesis.
1. Transition: It is useful to change the topic. Some words to express it
(however, moreover)
1. Closure: Present conclusions, advices and can have a brief.

14. 1. Conceptual or definition: Very important to scientist and technical text.
It is give the meaning a special word.
2. Chronological: Event´s a succession in the time.
3. Enumerative: It a phrase to organize a text.
4. Descriptive: Describe a person, object, situation or idea. You have to
describe since general to specific, present to the pass or pass to the
present.
5. Explanatory: Paragraph to clear. To expand an idea.
6. Expository: To present an idea in order.
7. Narrative: To relate events or actions in order.
8. Argumentative: Ideas to confirm that the author confirm or refuse.

It is true that we are talking about a country, Spain, which has suffered in the
last thirty years, a transformation not easily comparable: our society has
gone from dictatorship to democracy, religious indifference, the apolitical to

16. 1. Comparative: Difference and similarities between two objects or
phenomena.
2. Cause and effect: A fact following by reason that gave its origin or
consequences that fact produced.
3. Problem and solution: Have a problem but the solution too.
4. Process sequence: Event´s description or order in process.
5. Deductive: It begins with a principal idea and then offers to the readers
several secondary ideas.
6. Inductive: It begins with a secondary ideas and ends with principal or
general opinion.
7. Finding: The end. Some word to identify this sort or paragraphs are
(finally, in conclusion, in synthesys … )

Many people moved to Canada from Europe in the nineteenth century
because living conditions were terrible in Europe.
Example paragraph Inductive:
Start with the facts, and then later describe hypotheses and build theories
to explain them; then deduct them verifiable particular conclusions;
eventually resort to new observations or new calculations and compare
their findings with these results and finally, if found necessary, correct
their guesses without mercy: behold severe self-correcting nature of
scientific research.
