America have hired Associates for 6-12
months through edge;

Over 20,000 students and graduates
worldwide educated about how business at
the base of the pyramid contributes to
society;
edge started operations in Kenya in 2012. Over 800
students and graduates were reached, 6 Kenyan young professionals recruited as Associates
to impactful businesses in India and important networks with industry players and businesses
in Kenya created.

We are now looking for a Consultant to support edge to strategize, design and execute

The role
Over the next years, edge aims to expand its operations to attract a relevant and competitive
talent pool to accelerate Impact Businesses in the region. The Consultant will play a
pioneering role in tapping into market opportunities in Kenya. He/she will create and
implement strategies, engaging regional stakeholders and players in the field of Impact
Business while leveraging the global team, expertise and networks.

businesses in order to improve lives at the base of the pyramid through business. We

leveraging and contributing to the global edge team and brand.

Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit, aiming to constantly improve yourself and contribute

2. Core responsibilities of the role:
o
Develop edge’s strategy and operations in the region, mapping and leveraging
market opportunities;
o
Be accountable for and where applicable manage others to deliver the targets for
Kenya and possible East Africa in the future;
o
Strategize and pilot a 1-year Impact Associate Program in Kenya:
o
o
Sell the program to target businesses;
o
Promote the program to young professionals in Kenya: promotional events,
partnership building with key talent pools such as universities and professional
associations, pull in resources from the global team;
o
Design the selection process, preferably using several methods like interview,
case studies, panels; coordinate the selection and short-listing ofthe
candidates, pulling in resources from edge, the ecosystem and the
participating businesses for the process
o
o
Program design with the global team (currently undergoing)
Coordinate the learning environment for the Associates on the ground in
Nairobi: conduct need analysis, design curriculum, conduct sessions, pull in
external speakers from the ecosystem
Conduct a market research for a consultancy product delivering HR consultancy for
fast-growing impact businesses in Kenya
o
Build relationships with the businesses to find out their needs
o
Market analysis on competitors: pricing, services delivered, quality of service,
reach etc.
o
Identify businesses ready to pilot with edge
o
Conduct HR consultancy pulling in global edge resources and local experts:
for example: support in identifying key hiring profiles and JD writing, team
building and culture, mentorship programs, executive coaching etc.
o
Report the learnings and feed into the product design
o
Establish channels of target recruiting and marketing the roles to Kenyan talent with
2-5 years of work experience; pre-screen candidates, headhunt candidates using
diverse channels, build networks with key network nodes who can recommend talent
for specific roles
o
Build a network of experts in Kenya to identify an operations model of a recruitment
service and pricing models for the services
o
Give a recommendation for the HR structure for edge in Kenya
Other responsibilities:
Establish and manage relevant partnerships and collaborations; represent edge in
sector events and platforms;
o
Strategize and implement regional learning offerings for edge talent placed in
businesses according to market needs leveraging existing edge methodologies;
organize trainings, coordinate external speakers, coaches and facilitators, form
collaborations and partnerships

Document work materials and networking contacts in internal databases to ensure
knowledge management and transfer within markets;
o
Participate in edge’s team structures, including regular virtual and in-person team
meetings; actively contribute to the team culture in the region and globally

Manage the regional budget; Build and market products that create revenue for
edge’s long-term financial sustainability.
Measures of success for the role:
o
Expected outcomes within 2 months of the role:
o
o
Enroll (at least) 5 businesses into the “Kenya Impact Fellows” program (after
agreeing on JD, financial implications and expectations)
o
o
Documented interviews with at least 20 businesses or organizations
supporting businesses
Process established on how Kenyan young professionals can be recruited for
the 5 roles offered
Expected outcomes for the 3

and 4 month:
o

Curriculum design for the first 6 months of the program; At least 10 speakers
and contributors signed up
o
o
At least 50 Kenyan young professionals applying for the 5 roles
Market Research on HR consulting
If the role is extended to a permanent role, the KPIs would include
o
% of businesses and talent satisfied with the program;
o
% of the placed talent which is retained in the business after the 1-yearprogram
o
Number, quality and relevance of partnerships established;
o
Number of Kenyan young professional talent in edge’s talent pool;
o
Number of placements achieved with East African impact businesses;
o
Number of edge alumni involved with the programs and the field as a whole;
Background required:
Bachelor degree completed (Business or Social Science preferred);
o
High interest in sales & partnership management; proactive approach to sales and
partnership building
o
At least 2 years of full-time work experience (ideally in HR/talent development or
sales/business development)
o
Strong knowledge in hiring processes and reflection of what makes good professional
teams;
o
Preferred: Entrepreneurial experience and/or consultancy background

Kenyan nationality (strongly preferred);
o
2 years of work experience in the field of small and growing business, social business
or impact investment;
o
Experience and previous results in partnership management;
o
Experience in virtual teams
o
Excellent written and spoken English; Professional communication
Logistics
o
Depending on the candidate’s availability the role will start as soon as possible;
o
Location: Nairobi
o
The selected candidate is expected to travel to India and/or Brazil for training (travel
cost covered) and within East Africa by road (should this be required: Rwanda,
Uganda, Tanzania)
o
The candidate will work as an independent consultant to edge; remuneration will be
agreed on during the selection process
