4. Evidence in the car led police to
Claralyn Balasz, whose father owned a
cabin in Wilseyville (northwest of
Arnold), CA.
Leonard Lake believed the US would be
consumed by nuclear war, and had built
a survivalist’s bunker next to the cabin
where he, Balasz, and Charles Ng lived.

6. On searching the cabin, police found
blood on the mattresses, video
equipment, restraints, and blood-
stained lingerie.
Further searches revealed evidence of
kidnap, torture, rape, and murder as
Lake and Ng had planned on building a
series of bunkers with food, weapons,
supplies, and female sex slaves across
the country.
7. Eng and Lake had killed twenty-five
people, including two babies.
They tortured and taunted women,
while videotaping their rape and
murder.
8. Eng was eventually tracked to Calgary,
Canada and arrested for shoplifting.
His trial cost $10 million and is still the
single most expensive trial in US
history.
