  2. 2. Exposition <ul><li>The part of the plot that introduces the characters, the setting, and the basic situation. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Conflict <ul><li>A struggle between opposing forces. Sometimes the struggle is internal , or within a character. At other times the struggle is external , or between the character and some outside force. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Rising Action <ul><li>The part of the plot that includes events that builds up suspense that leads up to the climax. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Climax <ul><li>The high point of interest or suspense in a literary work. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Falling Action <ul><li>All of the action that takes place after the climax in a literary work that leads to the resolution. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Resolution <ul><li>The conflict has been resolved, either positively or negatively. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Denouement <ul><li>Anything that happens after the resolution of the plot. </li></ul>
