3. Know when to stop !
When I made this
presentation it was for
Bizcamp 15. But
Bizcamp 15 never came.
We should have
stopped a little earlier.
So let’s start again…
6. Speaking in front of an audience
in English
I never spoke in front of
an audience. Not even
in Dutch (my mother
tongue). Small talks in
front of small groups
helped me get where I
am now. Speaking in
front of more than 500
people in English. (and
Dutch).
8. Sharing stuff
Sharing stuff is
important. Show that
you know what you talk
about. People see your
content and knowledge
and want more.
9. A cool linkedin page
Organizing a
conference looks good
on Linkedin. Your
network does the rest.
10. When I look longer, I see more
First slides were the
quick wins. Here are
things I learned as we
grew larger and older.
11. + 20 %
no shows
Free conferences mean
some people will not
show up and will not let
you know beforehand.
The b*st*rds ! So order
less food and drinks
and save yourself some
money.
12. Good thing come to those who wait.
Bullshit !
The most interesting
people / talks were of
people who went for it.
Started something,
worked their butt off.
13. Networking is work
Don’t stare at your
smartphone. Work, talk,
meet, ask. If you want
to sit in a corner staring
at your smartphone,
stay home. Connect !
14. Networking works better when they know you.
When you give a talk, people
will come to you. With
questions, with remarks, with
compliments (really). It’s
easier to connect when
people come to you. Be
brave. Stand up. Speak up.
15. Be proud, you are (even) better than you think.
Of course you are
interesting. Everybody
has a , or more, stories
to share. Try and you’ll
see I’m right.
16. Talk to everybody
Talk to people. To all the people.
Broaden your network. You’ll never
know where people end up and
where you can benefit from knowing
them. Or they from knowing you.
17. Connecting the dots is easier if you have many.
The famous stanford talk of Steve Jobs.
Connect the dots. It’s easier when you have a
lot of dots to connect. Attending
conferences, networkevents, talking at events
will put dots everywhere. Connect later.
18. Anything worth doing isn't going to be easy.
If it was easy everybody would do it. Yes, you
need to be brave to speak in front of people,
to go and speak to people at a network
event. It’s work to make a presentation and
than share it. Nothing good ever came easy.
19. Cheesy conclusion
It was fantastic and met great and interesting
people. Some have become real friends.
Strangers 14 edition ago. Friends 5 years
after a joined journey. I would do it again.
Thank you Leo, Tamara and Bart. And many
others ( Gilbert, Ramon, Sarah, … )
20. Organize a conference
Attend a conference
Speak at a conference
Co-
Now it’s up to you. Attend or even better
speak. If that doesn’t work. Organize a
conference yourself and put yourself on the
agenda. Be brave and work your butt off.
Dots, you need dots to connect.
21. Thank you, you were great !
Thank you sponsors, attendees,
participants, followers, …
