2. The Light Microscope
• AIM: To learn how to use a microscope
• Cells are the smallest units of living things.
• They are extremely small.
• You need a microscope to see them.
• Microscopes magnify things so that we can
study them in detail.

3. THE LIGHT MICROSCOPE

Mirror
Stand
Clips

4. Eyepiece lens:
This is the lens you look through. It magnifies the image 10X
Objective lenses:
These are used to make the object even larger.
Stage:
This is the platform where you place the slide to be looked at.
Mirror / Light:
This sends light through the object and into your eye.
Stage Clips:
These hold the slide in place
Focus control:
This moves the lenses up and down to give you a clearer picture.
Stand:
This keeps all the parts in the correct position

• Use the microscope to magnify the
images of the prepared slides
• Draw and label these slides (time
permitting) in your notebooks!
