Successful Management Criteria
[Project Manager] PM to coordinate every step, role, and responsibility of the project.
Recruit a company executive [Key Stakeholder] to “sponsor” your efforts, and who will go to bat for
you.
Identify liaisons throughout the company who will help communicate and train their fellow co-workers
on the new system.
Listen to your users and make appropriate changes based on their feedback and suggestions.
Get [Communication Team] involved…to push the idea of a new learning system.
Get [Blackboard and Internal] training involved to schedule regular training sessions on the system.
Make sure you have lots of available and relevant content for your users to use.

With the installation of Blackboard several standard roles are created and
available to be assigned to users.
 System Roles: System roles control the administrative privileges
assigned to a user. This enables administrators to share administrative
privileges and functions with other users in Blackboard Learn.
 Course and Organization Roles: Course and organization roles control
access to the content and tools within a course or organization.
 Institution Roles: Institution roles control what brands, tabs, and
modules users see when they log in to Blackboard Learn
 Custom Roles: Administrators can create custom roles by copying an
existing role and editing its properties and privileges. You can also
create a new, blank role and add privileges to it (Blackboard, Inc., 2014,
para. 1 - 4).
 The Privileges Spreadsheet will be used for additional customization of
access included in the roles if needed. (See next slide).

Add/Edit trusted content with scripts Individuals with this privilege are considered "trusted", meaning they are able
to submit/edit data that will not be filtered. √ √ √
Administrator Panel Must be on to display the System Admin Tab. Provides access to the
System Admin Tab and to the Courses, Software Updates and Tools and
Utilities modules.
√ √ X
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Authentication Adds the Building Block channel and allows the user to select Authentication
and view the Configuration Settings for each Authenication type. X X X
Administrator Panel (Communities) > Brands and Themes >
Customize Login Page
This privilege alone does not display the Community channel and does not
add any additional capabilities to any other channel. Selecting this setting
has no impact on what an individual in a role with this permitted can do.
Administrator Panel (Users) > Customize User Information Adds the Users channel and the Customize User Information Link. With this
privilege, the user can add or modify User Information Links (Url, Link Title
and Instructions) and make that capability accessible or non accessible to
users. Individuals in this role can determine what User Information fields are
editable and displayed and determine the field Display Name.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Data Integration >
Integration Password
Individuals with this privilege can change the data integration password for
Integration Users. The Integration User is a special User account that is used
by Snapshot command line tool and the Data Integration API to process
operations from a client machine using Simple Object Access Protocol
(SOAP).
Administrator Panel (Security) > SSL Choice Displays the SSL Choice link in the Security channel. This allows an
individual with this privilege to edit or select the tools that require Secure
Socket Layer communitation between the server and client browser. Some
options include turning it on or off system-wide, selecting specific areas,
selecting specific tools, selecting specific Building Block tools, proxy tools,
and webservices if installed.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Authentication >
Create Authentication Provider
Individuals with this privilege can create an authentication provider.
Authentication providers are software services that are used to prove the
identity of users or system processes.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Authentication > Edit
Authentication Provider
Individuals with this privilege can edit authentication provider properties.
Authentication providers are software services that are used to prove the
identity of users or system processes.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Authentication >
Remove Authentication Provider
Individuals with this privilege can remove authentication providers.
Authentication providers are software services that are used to prove the
identity of users or system processes.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Authentication > View
Authentications Providers
Individuals with this privilege can view authentication providers properties and
their logs. Authentication are providers software services that are used to
prove the identity of users or system processes.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Building Blocks Displays the Building Blocks channel and a link to Building Blocks. Selecting
the linkdisplays access to Basic LTI Tool Providers and allows individuals
with this privilege to manage and register Basic LTI Tool Providers.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) > Building Blocks >
Install and Modify
Displays a link to Building Blocks. Selecting the linkdisplays access to Basic
LTI Tool Providers and allows individuals with this privilege to manage and
register Basic LTI Tool Providers. I saw no difference when enabling this
privilege than what I saw with simply enabling the Building Blocks privilege.
Administrator Panel (Building Blocks) >
Building Blocks > Installed Tools
Displays links in both the Building Blocks and Software Updates channels.
Selecting the Building Blocks link displays Installed Tools where an individual
in this role can Configure or delete Building Blocks that were included with the
system and Fomd amd Download other Building Blocks. The Basic LTI Tool
Providers link allows individuals to manage and register Basic LTI Tool
Providers. This also populates the Software Updates channel allowing
individuals in this role to view, find and download Building Block updates.

This table is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the release of Blackboard Learn April Release 2014.
Outcomes privileges are not included in this table.
√ = default enabled,
X=optional, not enabled by default,
n/a = not available for the role.
The IT/LMS Manager in partnership with the Director of
Training will follow the process below to launch the
Blackboard LMS:
 Get To Know The System In and Out
 Establish An LMS Task Force
 Prepare for Integration and Customization
 Compile Content
 Check, Check, and Double Check” (Roth, 2014).
A major advantage of the Blackboard license is their
24/7/365 infrastructure and support baseline ensures
Prosperity Bank can Check, Check, and Double Check its
LMS’ functionality, as depicted on the next slide.

working with Blackboard to make recommendations on new features to
the LMS.
 A plan will be formed to customize the LMS with the branding of
Prosperity Bank and to help ensure a seamless integration.
 All active existing training content will be compiled and organized for
uploading into the Blackboard LMS before the launch.
 Members of the Instructional Design and Information Management
Department will perform tests on the system before it is launched
corporate wide. This will help detect any bugs or defects that need to be
resolved before the launch.

This enables administrators to share administrative privileges and functions with other users in Blackboard Learn.  Course and Organization Roles: Course and organization roles control access to the content and tools within a course or organization.  Institution Roles: Institution roles control what brands, tabs, and modules users see when they log in to Blackboard Learn  Custom Roles: Administrators can create custom roles by copying an existing role and editing its properties and privileges. You can also create a new, blank role and add privileges to it (Blackboard, Inc., 2014, para. 1 - 4).  The Privileges Spreadsheet will be used for additional customization of access included in the roles if needed.
