A few days ago started the construction of what will become the tallest tower in the world.
With 1,000 meters and about 500 thousand square meters area, a few weeks ago formally began building
Kingdom Tower , which in a few years will be the tallest skyscraper in the whole world .
The project began to be planned since the mid- 2000s , however , was unveiled to the public in 2011 .
Originally it was envisaged that the building height was 1,600 meters, but the results obtained after a
study showed that different weather and soil conditions would not allow it .
The 161 -story tower will feature a Four Seasons, serviced apartments , office space, hotel condominiums
and an observatory .It will also house a luxury shopping center , additional areas for commercial
development , residential areas and open space amenities including a central plaza. In addition, the
integrated mixed-use complex 59 elevators, including 54 single cab five double-deck elevators and 12
escalators
The tower is part of the first phase of construction of Kingdom City Jeddah , the new urban development
project in Jeddah Economic Company ( JEC ) , which took place overlooking the Red Sea and Sharm
Ob'hur . Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal said " The world 's tallest tower in Jeddah will be completed in just 63
months
The building system include a high performance exterior wall that will minimize power consumption by
lowering the thermal loads , while three sides of the building will have a series of notches that create
pockets of shadow , protecting the building sun.
Once completed, the tower is expected to be the highest in the world , reaching more than a kilometer
high, or what is the same, 173 meters more than the current highest building 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa
located in Dubai.
The Saudi Bin Laden Developer Group ( SBG ) has acquired a 16.63% of JEC by $ 400 million , while
KHC will continue to hold a stake of 33.35% in the project. The other actors are Abraar International
Holding Company with 33.35% and businessman Abdulrahman Hassan Sharbatly YIDI with 16.67 %.
The project of Kingdom City Jeddah is expected to eventually cost about 20 billion dollars. Was divided
into three stages , complete end 10 years.
