What is Co-op?
The co-op program allows secondary school
students to earn credits while completing a work
placement.
The program is made up of
- a co-op course monitored by a co-op teacher
- a related curriculum course in any subject
- a work placement

Students can apply 2 co-op credits towards their
compulsory graduation requirements, with no limit
on earning optional co-op credits
co-op placements are arranged by their secondary
school and must follow Ministry of Education
policy and guidelines

the work placement runs from 110 – 440 hours over
several months or on alternate days throughout the
school year
the placement is unpaid and allows the student to
earn credit(s) while applying classroom learning
to a specific job and exploring their career options
co-op students work with a co-op teacher and a
placement supervisor to develop a personalized
learning plan

Co-op courses include:
a classroom component before, during and after
the placement
a pre-placement orientation that includes
preparation for the workplace, health and safety,
workplace insurance, and the development of a
Personalized Placement Learning Plan
a placement component
6. +The Personalized Placement Learning Plan
(PPLP)
outlines the course of study for the placement and
the administrative information for the course
identifies how the knowledge and skills from the
overall and specific expectations of the related
curriculum course will be applied and further
developed through the placement
