This document analyzes and summarizes several band photos based on composition, clothing, and context clues. Key points noted include how lead singers are typically positioned in the center to draw focus, black and white filters suggest an "old style", casual clothing and poses imply a less serious approach, and stylish outfits hint at fashionable genres like rock. Context clues about tattoos, graffiti, and surroundings provide additional insights into possible musical styles. Image Analysis
1. The Neighbourhood
This image portrays the band as an ‘indie’ genre of music. For example, the clothing they’re wearing (denim
jackets and woolly jumpers) suggests they maybe into that sort of music and perhaps create music of the same
genre. Also, the black and white effect on the image gives off the typical ‘band image’. This image being in black
and white with the lead singer placed in the middle. As the lead singer is usually the main focus of the
band, they are usually stood in the centre to draw more focus to the photo.
2. You Me At Six
The white background contrasts with the dark shades of colours the band is wearing. For
example, many of the artists are wearing at least one item of dark clothing. The leather jackets, skinny
jeans and denim clothing reflect on the genre of music they make. For example, in this case the genre
is shown as rock. The lead singer is placed in the centre of the image/other members as they typically
have the most attention, whereas other band members are placed behind the singer as they get less
attention than the singer.
3. Don Broco
This photo is different to other typical band photos. For example, this image shows the band on a
night out with beers in front of them. This could suggest the band isn’t a ‘normal’ band and see’s that
making music (in their opinion) is just for fun. The style of clothing suggests to me that the band is
fashionable and modern, which could give the viewer ideas of what they’re music may be like. The
lead singer however, has got most of his face towards the camera (almost directly looking at it) to
draw attention in as they have more attention, whereas the other band memebers in this photo have
their faces away from the camera.
4. Deaf Havana
The long hair and smart clothing suggests that the band is possibly older fashioned. The black and white
effect on the image also gives a sense of ‘old style’. Yet again, the lead singer is placed in front of the
other members to draw attention in as they are the main part of a band, however, in this image the
signer has his face away from the camera whereas other band members are looking more directly at
the camera. This photo doesn’t seem to be ‘staged’ e.g. the band seem to be doing their own thing and
the photographer just ‘captured the moment’.
5. New Politics
This image shows the band in a staged way. By staged, I mean the members have been placed there and
the photo isn’t ‘natural’. For example, the band member on the left is facing completely away from the
camera and the member on the right is facing towards the camera but with his head tilted. The singer
again, is placed in the middle of the image to draw attention in. The leather jackets, denim clothing and
skinny jeans could represent a rock genre. Also, the graffiti on the wall says ‘LOVE’ which could suggest
that the band are caring.
6. The Maine
This photo hasn’t been staged, it’s a natural shot of the band walking through a hallway. The lead
singer is not placed in the middle of the other members, which helps suggest it isn’t a staged image.
However, the lead singer is taking up more of the image than the rest of the band. The checkered
shirts, jeans and converse suggest that this band has a genre of ‘alternative rock’.
7. Panic! At The Disco
The man stood in the photo is shown in a brightly coloured suit and bow tie. This could possibly suggest
that he has class or stylish. The haircut could also suggest that he’s fashionable as that hair style at the
moment is in fashion. The brightly coloured suit contrasts with the patterned background to make the
subject stand out more to draw attention in.
8. A Day To Remember
The tattoos shown off by the band members reflect on the genre of their music e.g. Rock.
The whole band is shown looking at the camera, this suggests the photo has been staged.
The lead singer is yet again in the middle therefore, drawing more attention. The way the
man with the sunglasses is stood with his arm around another member suggests the band is
close and have a good friendship.
