1. Blur Analysis:
Performance: I feel that the image on the front of this
album is very different from many other typical Rock bands.
The fact that the image has his shoulders risen and his
head down suggests that he is shy or not as confident as
others and this seems to me that the band are only just
starting off and are not as well known as other bands at the
time.
Design: The colours used are muddy browns and dark
colours, also with the guy with a bare chest. This could
draw the audience in because its not typical for a rock
band. Also many rock bands album covers are of the band
and the band name. This is where ‘Blur’s’ album is different
and I feel that because of this it comes across as very
unique.
Mise en scene: There's not much to say about mise en
scene as they are not a typical rock band in the way they
portrayed their album. They do not have the band name on
the front which seems to me that they try to make the
audience pick the album up to look at it, and to me this
draws people in to buying their product.
Camerawork: The shot used in this album is a mid shot.
This shows half the guys body and gives us an idea of what
he looks like. Usually mid shots show the top half of the
subject and a bit of background image to set the scene, but
in this image there is no background to be seen and this
creates questions as to why they haven’t used any
background image.
2. Although the front cover of the album
isn't typical of a rock band, the back of it
seems to be just the same as many
others.
They have the song
names, barcode, title and band on the
spine. They have also, to make this cover
a bit more uncommon, infused the band
name and the title of the album into
one word and I think this looks very
effective and creative. I think this gives
the image that they are original and that
is a positive to their target audience.‘Blur’ is founded by Virgin
records, which is a British label
that was founded by the very
successful entrepreneur Richard
Branson.
On the spine of the album is
the name of the band and the
name of the band’s album.
