  • 21. Indian Railways Salient Features & drawback One of the biggest feature that Indian railway has provided to their customers is of e-ticketing. E-ticketing by this facility the people are some how relaxed a bit because he/she can book ticket(reservation) without wasting any time or standing in queues. If we look at the figures of the e-booking of tickets about 80% of the tickets are booked by the people who are living in metro cities (NCR,Delhi,Gurgaon,Mumbai etc.) There is a big drawback of booking an e-ticket that it is mandatory for the person who is booking the ticket get his/her ticket confirmed before the time of boarding of the train otherwise the person will be traeted as without ticket. Otherwise all other quotas are there like tatkal , general and ladies. Indian Railways has given many links for booking an e-ticket i.e- Irctc.co.in , Indianrailinfo.com &Indianrailgov.in.
  • 22. Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporatioon Limited
  • 23. SWOT Analysis Strength. Weakness. Opportunity. Threats.
  • 24. Strength The “Biggest Company” in the world in terms of employees strength. The cheapest way of travelling if compares to other mode of travelling. Luxurious and affordable to common man. Connect different cities and countries. Technological advancement.
  • 25. Weakness Corruption with in the department. Lack of accident proof magnetic wheels in all trains. Lack of safety. Poor Infrastructure Delayed Trains. Non-pro active employees.
  • 26. Opportunity “Metro” in a commercial city like Delhi. Development in all small cities. Profit through privatization.
  • 27. Threats Low cost of airlines. Improvement of other infrastructure like roadways. Could be taken over by airlines.
  • 28. Conclusion There are many loop holes that has to be overcome. Security is one of the biggest concern. There should be proper cleaning on the stations. There should be more numbers of trains at the time of vacations. There is an other alternate also for booking a ticket other than e-booking for more comfort ability and saving time of the people.
