3. History
‘Why go to the cinemas when you have a DVD copy of
your favorite film?’
Films were not released onto DVD for a while as
Companies didn’t understand that DVD’s would make
so much money.
Many companies now rely on DVD’s to make profit
from their finished product.
Twister (1996) was the first film to be released onto
DVD, making $133,464,330 from Rental copies.
4. PS2
Sony released the PS2 in 2000, which
was able to play DVD movies, and was
priced the same as a DVD Player,
although the Playstation was also a
game console.
5. Quadrupled sales in 2000
Sales raised a great amount within the year 2000.
Starting with Gladiator, with other 500,000 sales,
which was followed by The Matrix which allso had
over 300,000 copies sold
6. DVD sales
The sale of DVDs have been failing
since 2007, but the digital Entertainment
group (DEG) reported that physical
sales collapsed 19% to $2.2bn (£1.3bn)
in the first quarter.
7. DVD Boxsets
DVD box sets increased sales drastically as of
the many Series of films, like Matrix and
Rocky for example. One of the biggest chain
of films released on DVD was the Harry Potter
series, as people wanted to collect all of the
films on DVD.
8. DVDs more recently
Torrenting has recently been introduced within
the last few years, which has affected the DVD
sales
DVD sales has dropped by 16% within 2010,
dropping from 3% compared to 2009
This may be because of Torrenting, but also
Blu-ray movies have also been released.
