    • Flickr is a digital photo sharing website In addition to being a popular Web site for users to share personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers as a photo repository
    • Flickr offers users/contributors the ability to release their images under certain common usage licenses. The options primarily include Creative Commons licenses.
  • 2. “ Creative Commons”
    • The Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others legally to build upon and share.

  • 4. Image Databases
    • Options:
      • Open Web Search
      • Specific Web Sites that permit copying/downloading
      • Subscription Databases
    • Important questions to always consider when copying or saving images from any source:
      • Is the image copyrighted ?
      • Is it licensed* for my purposes ?
    *Permission to use images for a specific purpose.
  • 5. Open Web Search
    • Pros
      • Numerous image results for almost any search
    • Cons
      • Unlikely that the images are usable because they are copyrighted
  • 6. A safe strategy
    • Locate public domain images on the Web
    • Locate images that are licensed for your purposes – if they are offered for free.
      • If there is a fee – pay it if you want the image.
    • Use subscription databases that are licensed for educational use.

The intention is to avoid the problems current copyright laws create for the sharing of information.
