Albert Mansbridge was born in 1876 in Gloucester, England. He left school at 14 and held various jobs before helping to found the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) in the early 1900s. The WEA aimed to provide higher education opportunities for working people. Mansbridge helped the WEA expand to other countries and founded other adult education organizations before retiring due to illness. He received honorary degrees from several universities in recognition of his contributions to adult education and died in 1952.

6. 1905 changed the name of the Association to Promote the Higher Education of Working Men to “Workers Educational Association” 1913 Mansbridge visited Australia and helps start WEA’s in each state. New Zealand and Canada gain interest in WEA
7. Mansbridge is incapacitated by cerebo-spinal meningitis and is forced to resign from his office in the WEA He was awarded honorary degrees by Oxford, Manchester and Cambridge
8. Mansbridge helped found the World Association for Adult Education (known as International Council for Adult Education today) 1916 he helped form the Central Library for Students. Helped with the creation of the College of the Sea and Seafarers Education Service
