  1. 1. Why are so many blogs such a hopeless failure? passle investigates…
  2. 2. Most businesses are hugely missing the mark when it comes to business blogging
  3. 3. In a recent passle survey of over 500 businesses… (June-July 2013)
  4. 4. Only 1in 8 businesses had an updated blog* *of at least 3 posts in the last year… so not even a high benchmark!
  5. 5. And 80% had no blog at all! 13% 7% 80% Active blog Inactive blog No blog
  6. 6. We then asked 800heads of marketing at small or medium sized businesses if they had an updated blog… (July-August 2013)
  7. 7. 70% admitted they did not have an updated blog
  8. 8. Given that claims… Businesses that blog 3-5 times a month have twice as much web traffic and inbound leads than those who don’t blog…
  9. 9. And that… Small businesses (<10 employees) see the biggest gains in web traffic and inbound leads when they post more articles...

  12. 12. We asked 200heads of marketing at businesses which don’t have an updated blog…. why do you not have an updated blog? (There were allowed to give more than one reason)
  13. 13. 32% said they don’t see the point in a blog
  14. 14. 27% said they don’t have enough time to blog
  15. 15. 23% said they can’t write (or spell) very well
  16. 16. 19% said they ran out of topics to write about
  17. 17. 19% said no one else helped with the blog

  25. 25. Businesses essentially have 2choices when it comes to blogging…
  26. 26. option 1 (the cop-out) Just give up. A dead blog looks so much worse than not having one at all – so if you can’t keep your blog updated, it’s time to bin it.
  27. 27. option 2 (the better choice) Commit to your blog. Force yourself to write. Get your colleagues involved to help you. And use a tool like passle to make it much, much easier.
