stereotypical for a female to wear.
Key elements:
The use of shot type, which is a mid shot, represents to the social class that there isn't a brand name on any of the clothing, which means
they could afford the costume that she is wearing. Also, the use of colour is bright using bright pink and blue, this stands out to the
audience because they are automatically attracted to the coverlines. The model is twiddling her hair and smiling giving off the impression
she is confident. Looking at the body language means that she is relatable to some of the audience and also others will look up to her and
want to be like her. Lastly, the layout represents the age of the target audience because it is cluttered they will want to see and know
everything that is going to be in the magazine.

represents the gender because females will be interested to This would appeal to the target audience because
see what she is wearing so they can follow her trend. they would aspire to be like her.
9. Social Groups
The way that social groups are represented in the ‘we love pop’ magazine is through age,
gender, costumes and the use of language. In the magazine the age of the artists on the
front are a little older then the target audience, they would still be able to relate to them
because they are a well-known band and will be able to look up to them like the boys in
their school. Using males on the front cover is effective because the target audience,
which is predominately female will enjoy looking at them, being attracted to the sex
appeal. The language on the front cover represents the social group because the
language is informal which will relate to the target audience because they would rather
read single words rather than full sentences. In my magazine, the way that social groups
are represented is through age, gender, costumes and the language. The age of the artist
is relatable to the target audience because she is a teenager and the target audience for
my magazine is 12-16 years. The gender of the artist is also relatable because she is a
female and the audience will be able to look up to her and want to be like her. The
costume that she wears will appeal to the audience because she is wearing a bright red
dress, which is eye catching and feminine. Lastly, the language used will relate to social
groups because it is informal, which will relate to the audience as they will look at a word
that catches their eye and read it, but if it was a whole sentence they wouldn’t take the
time to read it. So, using words such as ‘secrets’ and ‘rage’ interest them and will catch
their eye making them read on.
10. SUMMARY
From looking at the representations in both my magazine and an actual magazine, the people
are represented in similar ways as they are smiley, friendly and feminine. It also represents
social groups of people who are in middle class, because in the magazine there isn’t any
designer clothing, which would mean the target audience would be able to look at the clothing
and think they are able to afford it and look like their idol. It is also a reasonable priced
magazine, which would appeal to the target audience because they will be able to afford it.
Also, with the use of shot types, mise-en-scene, locations, use of language and colour the
overall representation of social groups are middle class because the way I used language and
actual magazines, to relate to the target audience there is the use of slang, when you shorten
down words. It is effective to use this because it makes it easier for the reader to read when
they take a first glance at the pages. Overall my magazine is aimed at all ethnicities, it doesn’t
aim at just one ethnicity in particular.
