The student has learned several key skills for designing magazines since starting the course, including how to crop images successfully, add effects to images to make them more interesting, use interesting fonts, create a magazine for a specific target audience, remove backgrounds from images, embed documents in blogs, use a professional camera to take higher quality photos, and get feedback on a survey to understand the audience. The student noticed improvements in their own work from their preliminary magazine to their pop magazine, especially in terms of using more interesting fonts, cropped and edited images, and including additional photos on the cover to make it more engaging.

6. Comparison
From looking at both my preliminary magazine and my pop magazine I can see that I have improved in terms
of shot types, layout, fonts, costumes and editing techniques.
The images are very similar as they both have
smiling models in them which gives off a positive
feel for the magazine.
The mastheads of my
magazines are similar
because they are both big
and bold, although my
pop magazine’s is more
interesting to look at.
The coverlines of my
magazines are very
different as my pop
magazine has more
interesting fonts and a
colour background,
which makes it stand
out even more.
The main coverlines
are very similar
because they are
bold and white.

magazine I have another coverline but with my pop
magazine I have included other images which makes it

7. Highlight key areas of progress
From looking at both of my magazines, it is clear that I have learnt a lot from this course on how to
produce a conventional magazine because my preliminary task doesn’t have interesting fonts
compared to my pop magazine. In terms of my progress I am now able to crop images successfully and
also be able to add effects to make the images more interesting and look effective to draw the
audience in.
