Evaluation question 4
1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
From start to finish of my research and planning, construction and my evaluation I
used a number of different new media technologies. I believe that when looking
back on my coursework I may have been able to make more use of new
technologies such as social networks; Facebook and Twitter to collect more critical
feedback from my audience about my ancillary tasks and my film trailer. Typical new
media technologies that I had used throughout the course ranged from the camera I
used; Canon EOS 600D and the use of editing software iMovie, to construct my film
trailer and Photoshop to create my ancillary tasks.
Throughout my research and planning is no doubt the most important part of my
coursework as this was the foundation of my trailer and where it all started. I found
myself using a variety of new technologies such as prezzi, slideshare and word to
present my documents in a way that would be interesting to my target audience.
Another prime element of my research and planning was the use of the Internet, to
enhance my knowledge in relation to professional products, which I could use later
on for inspiration and convention analysis. This includes YouTube and Google images
in reference to reviewing professionally made products such as; The Purge, Sinister
and Insidious and these aided me in the construction of my own film products.
Survey monkey provided me with unanimous information in relation to my film
products and target markets. An example would be the majority of the feedback was
directed towards my use of fonts and colours within my ancillary tasks. I frequently
referred back to this which then resulted in my final colours for my ancillary tasks
being a bold red and a solid white. My final font varied in size but never was smaller
then size 48; my style of font remained consistent throughout all my products as this
in itself gave my coursework its own identity.
The Canon EOS 600D was a fundamental technology within my work, as it provided
me with clear imagery throughout my products. This was a vital piece of equipment
as it stored and recorded footage used in my final film trailer. It also enabled me to
create the main image for my ancillary tasks and add diegetic sound to my film
trailer. The use of Adobe Photoshop CS3 became an imperative piece of technology
as it aided me with using to construct my ancillary tasks, I also used a number of
tools from the software to edit and finish my final products. A common tool I would
use would be the lasso tool; this helped me to cut out unnecessary parts of pictures
and texts that I didn’t need. I also repeatedly used bold texts to stand out more on
the product, which would then catch the eye of my target audience. I also used the
colour red frequently, which is commonly associated with words like blood, horror
and scare, as it seemed appropriate to my chosen genre. iMovie was crucial software
when editing footage filmed by the Canon EOS 600D for my film trailer. It gave me
the ability combine the footage together to create the foundation of my film trailer in
2. result, providing me with the necessary tools to a professional film trailer. Transitions
were commonly used throughout my entire trailer, the use of transitions brought my
footage together with a sense of flow and stability. In addition the track Coming
Home recorded by the lead singer of a band named Furniture Girls, which was also
used in the film Insidious. This works well alongside my use of diegetic sound, which
included sound effects from iMovie library, it helped to create a tense and suspicious
atmosphere. Continuing, iMovie software allowed me to enhance the link between
my products using the consistent font Times New Roman in conjunction with the
similar colour scheme used, solid white. This I believe would attract my target
audience more and portray the professional image I was hoping for.
For my evaluation I intended to use new technologies such as Microsoft Word, Prezzi
and slideshare to present my final ideas in a creative manor, which highlighted the
skills, I have learnt throughout my course. Using websites such as Prezzi and
Slideshare predominantly gave my work an effect and creative look. Presenting my
work in Prezzi made my work more eye catching for my target audience portrays
clear links between aspects within my work. The use of slideshare gave me the
variety of technologies used that I needed when presenting my work on my blog,
Microsoft word immediately became a basic programme from beginning to end as it
helped me to gather and collect information for my A2 course.
In summary I believe that new technologies played a key role in providing me with
the creative and professional look I was aiming for. Without software like Adobe
Photoshop CS3 and iMovie I would not have been able to create a final product to
the standard I have achieved. New technologies aided me greatly efficiently when
creating my products and also my time keeping.
