retail, leisure, entertainment and hotel centre.
• The government anticipated that in the 21st century, Singapore
will have to become more competitive and thus, decided to
develop Clifford Pier into an attraction.
• This change is important for Singapore especially in the 21st
century because it attracts many tourists and foreign investors to
Singapore. This will in turn boost Singapore’s economy.
