SWOT analysis in terms of etracurricular activities, Finland

 1. 1. Kallaveden koulu, Kuopio Finland 2011 November SWOT analysis in terms of etracurricular activities
 2. 2. STRENGTHS Concerning pupils

The pupils are supported and guided by the teachers to arrange extracurricular activities.

The importance of these activities to the school atmosphere and comfortability is wide known.

The headmaster is encouraging teachers to guide the pupils union. The most active members of the pupils union arrange about 3-4 times a year program for the whole school. It can contain music, games, matches, various themes, for example a special way of dressing.

 3. 3.

The separate classes also organize projects to collect money for their own purposes, which may be some trip or other activities outside the school.

There is the council of voluntary parents, who organize every year some activity as an evening course.

 4. 4. STRENGTHS Concerning teachers

These activities are coming of initiative of some teachers or they are organized of the local trade union or of our school recreation group.

The personnel is encouraged to maintain and to improve its ability to work and to feel well.

 5. 5.

Specially physical and cultural activities and schooling ahead yourself are supported.

The school personnel can use the gym and the sports hall in spare time.

There are some rehabilitation programs which you are allowed to take part in and use your working hours for that.

 6. 6. WEAKNESSES

Concerning both pupils and teachers.

There could be more pupils and teachers who take the responsibility to organize these activities.

At school it is often not very easy to find time for planning together.

 7. 7. OPPORTUNITIES

Pupils have a cheap way to exercise.

It would be good to establish different groups which pupils were really interested in, for example styling-club or scooter-club.-> When teachers, parents or other actors are planning these activities, they should hear the pupils and take more pupils to plan together.

 8. 8.

Club leaders could be real actors coming from outside of the school.

The school as a building has good place to use also in the evenings. There should be more teamwork with the other actors who are also working for the youth.

Maybe in the future learning happens not only in classrooms and at daytime guided by the teachers.

Extracurricular activities will have then bigger significance for the development and schooling of the pupils.

 9. 9. THREATS

When the school is expected and demanded to be more and more efficient in the direction of pure theoretical learning results, there are then no place anymore for extracurricular activities.

If you as a teacher are a lot away from your classroom work, maybe, it has a negative influence for the pupils. Especially if they need you as an authority.
