  • 5 things to keep in mind   1. Twitter is personal Your Twitter account will have your name and your profile. You will be responsible for what you Tweet and how you Tweet. You're always YFJ Bureau/Secretariat, but you're first and foremost yourselves. YFJ will have its own official account, from which official policy papers, documents and positions will be spread. In your Tweets, you're feel to express YOUR opinions.  Don't feel afraid to use "I", but bear in mind that you have some responsibilities towards YFJ.   2. Directly to the point The limits of 140 word are extremely helpful to get directly to the point. In one sentence you'll have to express a concept, an opinion or a feeling.   3. Links There is a way of saying more. Inserting a link in your Tweet will help you. In this way, you can share with everyone else, interesting reading, a picture uploaded online, a video on Youtube and so on.  These can be background information, a provocative hint or simply a curious content.   PS: Use a URL shortener service to gain more space in your Tweet, as links can sometimes be extremely long. e.g.   4. Networking Twitter is about networking (!). See who of your friends is already on Twitter. Start by "following" them (this means that you will get their updates on your homepage - like FB). Find out also about different interesting things to "follow" (newspapers, institutions, other NGOs have accounts on Twitter). The more you follow, the more you'll be followed.   You can retrieve your Tweets by (send this link around, it's a public page for people that want to know what you're up to).   5. Ethics Remember Twitter is a public space. Different from FB, where you can choose your circle of friends, Twitter allows anyone to search your Tweets. (although there is a way of keeping your Tweets private, the purpose of Twitter and YFJ is to get public!).
  • !!! IMPORTANT !!! As you can see from today on on the YFJ Homepage there is a "widget" on the left column showing all the Twitter updates relevant for YFJ.   How is this possible? Twitter and dash-tags!!! Because the application detects all the Tweets (status messages) that contain the expression "#YFJ".   e.g. Letzi83 is now at the YFJ COMEM --- is NOT going to appear in the feeds! Letzi83 is now at #YFJ COMEM --- is going to appear in the feeds   It is common use of Twitter to add hashtags at the end of sentences. e.g. Letzi83 Tine Radinja is speaking about health and development at the UNGA in New York #YFJ   Remember to put all the time #YFJ in your Tweets!!   In any case, I'll be available for any question. There will also be an introductory session for Secretariat and Bureau at their next Secretariat and Bureau meetings. There are several applications/tools that work with Twitter. It's like Forwarding an email. 2. d username = Direct Message --- you're sending a private message to this person (this feature is only available if you're being followed by this person) 3. 4.  Selective Twitter Status : a FB application that allows you to post a Tweet as Status on Facebook.
