Motifs for our band
Motif-
A recurring theme or verbal pattern in a single text or a number of
different texts. Adjective: motific.
(Google definitions)

. So pretty much it’s an object, or theme that appears throughout
the artists career, for example Michael Jackson’s white glove.
Why do we need a motif?
Motifs can help in order to gain familiarity to a band or
artist, they are shown throughout music videos and posters to
become iconic to that artist so therefore when we see that
object/ theme we associate it with the artist.

Examples of artists and motifs are;

. Michael Jackson and his white glove
. LMFAO and their robot head actor
What is our motif?
Our motif for our music video is
balloons and writing. We chose the
balloon because of its link with our
lyrics as it represented the couple
being far apart as the balloon is far
from earth. This balloon idea appears
through our work as we liked the
representation of being able to float
away, or being apart from something
you once were.

Our other motif was the personal
writing, we chose this as it makes the
audience feel closer to the band as its
written by the band themselves. It also
gives a direct like to our music, i.e.
when we wrote lyrics onto the balloon.
Impacts on the audience
• This therefore then makes people become
more familiar with the band, so if they saw a
balloon or writing they could link that to our
band and therefore will make more people
become familiar and enjoy our band. It can
even help with getting new audiences as
searches on the internet can link with the
words balloon or writing to show our band
and people then may look at it.
