Behaviorism:
Social Cognitive Theory aka Social Learning
Albert Bandura 1925 Focused on motivational facts and selfregulatory mechanisms, contributing to
person’s behavior, not environmental
factors
 Believed people acquire behavior
through observation of others. After
observing they imitate what they have
witnessed.
 Proved his Social Cognitive Theory by
studies including television commercials
and videos with violent scenes.
Social Cognitive Theory Steps
 Attention: Student must be paying
attention to the modeled behavior.
 Retention: Student needs to remember
the activities that were modeled.
 Reproduction: Students response shows
symbols of the modeled behavior with
practice.
 Motivation: reinforces are used to make
children more likely to imitate behaviors.

Imagery: an individuals ability to
retain information through images
in the mind.
Self-Efficacy: an individuals
personal observation about one’s
perceived ability to think, motivate
to learn and feel
Behavior Process: Self Regulation
 Self observation: an individual
keeps track of their own actions.

Behavior

Environmental

 Judgment: compare what an
individual observers with
standards that are set by society.

Personal

 Self response: depending on a
persons standards set for
themselves, they will give
themselves an award.
Without technology
teachers will have to
find other ways to
be able to show a
behavior and see if
a student would
mimic it.

With technology
teachers can show
students something
and observe their
behavior.
With
technology
students will
be easily
shown a
video and
see the
behavior
they should
mimic or not
mimic and
easily see a
positive or
negative
result.

Without
technology
students will
be observed
by learning
the behviors
and actions
of fellow
students and
seeing if
they are
positive or
negative
results.
Thoughts:
In my classroom, I believe technology will not be used with this theory. Since I
am going into special education I believe the students will learn through the
actions of themselves and fellow classmates,. Whether or not they get a
positive or negative reaction.
Thank you!
