2. 2. How does your Media
Product represent a particular
social group?
• So the Opening of my Film is set in The Second World war so
that’s a time period of 1939-1945. Times were tough during
the war, everything changed and people had to do more and
pull together as a country. The lifestyle change was drymatic
in Britain and other countries. The generation succeeded and
overcame the lifestyle that they had to conform to so that
they would not be ruled by a evil. The patriotic passion and
love for their country made everyone stronger and won the
war. I think out of any genre I could have picked and period of
time to set it in, I have a important task not only for myself to
get a grade in a subject but to represent this generation (social
group) of people that achieved so much to keep their and our
country protected from Hitler.
3. Stereotypes/Conventions of
British Soldiers During 1940s
• The stereotypes of those people tend to be the archetypal
stereotypes that people think of the British today
• The hair style is one think having it to one side
• The accent, either well spoken and good pronunciation of
words or lower class more of a cockney accent.
• The idea that the British do everything by the book and do
everything with a high level of professionalism
• For soldiers in the war not only British but everyone that
fought in the Second World War they would have mental
difficulties dealing with what they saw. Veterans from the war
today will get very emotional and find it hard to talk about
what happened
4. Continuing the
stereotypes/conventions of a
soldier in general
• Because most of the people who fought were normal people
with everyday jobs originally there would be a variety of
different characters all sorts of different soldiers with different
backgrounds. So a wide use of nicknames would be created
based on their character of a event that happened.
• The conditions would be rough to they would look ragged
after being in a battlefield, expect them to be covered in dirt
with blood on hands and face
• Not only are these all stereotypes but are in fact very true
5. How I Represented the Soldier
in my Opening
• I represented my soldier as being a soldier that has psychological
problems and is troubled. It is clear to see that he has seen action
because of the wound on his neck, the dirt on his face indicates that
there has been a explosion and dirt has impacted on his face. The
soldier is out in the woodland alone he is thinking about past events
that have happened to him then he hears something and is quick to
point a gun in the direction he thought he heard something then
realizes that its nothing so he starts to run and carries on trying to get
back to his division constantly on guard. This represents the soldier as
troubled and trying to cope with the images in his mind which must be
hard to deal with psychologically an I show that it effects him by acting
out of character. My introduction shows my character running as if he is
chasing someone, he fires two shots and places a bayonet on as he
reaches the opening there is no one to be seen so he carries on running.
I purposely don’t show him chasing anyone because at this moment of
time I don’t want the audience to see what he sees only what we see of
him in our normal state. This makes the audience wonder is he actually
chasing someone or is it all in his mind or is he just on his gaud and
trying to get back to his division.

7. What Kind of Media Institute
might distribute your media
product and why?
8. Distributors
• Film distributor is a companies or individual are responsible for releasing
films to the general public either theatrically or for home viewing through
all the mediums like DVD, Blu-ray, Television or download/digital. A
distributor may do this directly if the distributor owns the theatres or film
distribution networks, this is called vertical integration.
• Examples of Film Distributors
9. Example of another film that is
similar and the films
distributor
• This is the closest film that is
similar to my opening.
Atonement used Universal
Pictures Uk to distribute their
film. The film was very successful
at the box office Atonement
grossed $US129,266,061.[The
film was released in the United
Kingdom and Ireland on 7
September 2007, and has
grossed £11,557,134. It was also
given a limited release in North
America on 7 December, and
grossed $US784,145 during its
opening weekend, posting a per-
theatre average of $US24,504 in
32 theatres.
10. Universal Pictures Why I chose
it.
• The reason for choosing Universal Pictures is because it is
one of the biggest studios/distributors in the world.
Obviously they have a brilliant portfolio of films they
have distributed for.
• Main reason is because it has distributed the 2007 film
Atonement which is very close to my film.
• The Budget of Atonement was $30 million and made
$129,266,061. This doesn’t mean it made this amount
due to it being Distributed through Universal Pictures
however it is a element to the success.
12. • There are three audiences my media product would be aimed at.
The first is Veterans and the elder generation that would have either
been in the war, lived during the time or have had relatives that died
during the war.
• The second audience is those who enjoy action and the war genre.
Any age from 15 onward and are male would enjoy my media
product.
• The third audience is people who are apart of a WW2 re-enactment
group. To sum up the age range is from 15-100 potentially that is a
big proportion of audience the only problem is that it is mainly a
male audience unless it has a romantic element which my film could
still have but defiantly want it to be a pure war genre.
