Fiontar, DCU Information
1. Fiontar was established in 1993 as an Irish unit within DCU
providing teaching and research services. Fiontar provides
undergraduate and postgraduate courses through the
medium of Irish as well as postgraduate research
opportunities.
2. Undergraduate courses
BA Business and Irish (CAO DC118)
On the BA Business and Irish course you will gain expertise in business and
management, advanced skills in information technology as well as a high proficiency
in contemporary Irish.
BA Irish and Journalism (CAO DC239)
On the BA Irish and Journalism emphasis is placed on developing the following:
practical skills in journalism and media, understanding and expertise about
organisations involved in the media especially the Irish language media.

MSc in Business and Information Technology (CAO DC627)
The MSc in Business and Information Technology provides an opportunity for students to add
to their wide educational and work experience by developing their business and information
technology skills and in preparation for a variety of jobs in the private and public sectors.

On the MA in Irish (Society and Language), you will study the various questions related to Irish
development in contemporary society.
Postgraduate Research Opportunites – MA and PhD
Graduates can undertake postgraduate research in Fiontar in a variety of subjects that relate to
the Irish language development. As we are an interdisciplinary school, Fiontar welcomses
graduates in a wide variety of subjects. A degree in Irish is not required for postgraduate
research.
